Contract to hire position.
This position is remote, but candidates must be local to Houston to attend meetings as necessary.
Responsibilities:
- Apply relevant national and local engineering standards and codes.
- Design duct banks, embedded conduit, cable trays, grounding, and lighting systems from initial concept to final implementation, using engineering documents, sketches, or vendor specifications.
- Provide regular updates on project progress and report any issues to the project leadership team.
- Collaborate with the project team using the Project Database, including processes like Request for Review, Holds List, ECN, and Requests for Information from other disciplines, as well as other relevant functions.
- Create 3D models using drawings, sketches, and design expertise, and check the models for interferences and constructability.
- Route electrical cables within a 3D environment to create a cable schedule.
- Model electrical components based on vendor submittals and electrical design documents.
- Conduct calculations to verify the allowable fill for conduits and cable trays in accordance with NEC standards and determine the proper size for pull boxes.
- Perform calculations to determine the correct sizing for pull boxes based on NEC requirements.
- Collect necessary information for design development and ensure voltage separation requirements are met.
- Prepare plan drawings and detailed documentation for electrical deliverables.
- Review, inspect, and develop designs, ensuring they meet electrical quality standards and departmental procedures.
- Verify that designs meet consistency, safety, functionality, and maintenance criteria before submitting for further review.
- Address any comments or issues raised during design review and make necessary corrections.
- Complete various tasks to support ongoing project development.
- Provide field support to assist the construction team with resolving on-site issues.
Qualifications:
• At least 8 years' experience in Design and/or Drafting disciplines with a background in electrical design
• Experience utilizing 3D programs such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks or SP3D and have knowledge of the latest computer operating systems.
• Must be able to conceptualize in a 3D environment.
• Ability to work in a growing, adaptive and multi-discipline team environment
• Ability to work independently with limited direction and oversight
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
