Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is currently seeking a senior electrical engineer to join our Water group in Rochester, NY. We have a need for an electrical engineer with at least 5 years' experience. Our Water Discipline is growing, and we have exciting projects to engage motivated engineers who enjoy working on a variety of projects including hydropower (generators, switchgear, transformers, relays, controls and auxiliary electrical systems), electrical equipment for water control facilities including flood control/pumping stations, reservoirs and canals, and on hoisting equipment associated with hydro facilities as well as for navigation facilities. Our projects are unique designs and provide a diverse array of interesting work to keep our staff challenged and engaged. Our upcoming project portfolio includes jobs on some of the largest infrastructure projects in the country.

Responsibilities
  • Manage projects for the repair and/or upgrade of hydroelectric generators, breakers, transformers and auxiliary systems.
  • Lead the design effort for upgrade/replacement of hydroelectric auxiliary electrical systems.
  • Direct the development of bid documents (plans, Specs and Cost estimates).
  • Develop or provide input on design effort for proposals.
  • Mentor junior staff.
  • Review/edit/write technical reports.
  • Review/edit/write technical specifications.
  • Develop design criteria for projects.
  • Oversee teams of drafters to prepare design drawings.
  • Perform QA/QC by verifying design methodology, calculations, outcomes, etc.
  • Lead field inspections and surveys in support of repair, design and construction efforts.
  • Develop design alternatives.
  • Assist project managers and leaders as needed in the creation of proposals, client information, and designs.
  • Develop training materials for clients and provide technical advice.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors' Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Professional engineer licensure preferred (or desire to become licensed).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical engineering, with emphasis on medium and high voltage equipment and auxiliary electrical systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of rotating equipment (generators, motors).
  • Knowledge in the design of auxiliary electrical systems (protective relaying, instrumentation and control systems, station service).
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principals and how to apply them to design of electrical systems and equipment.
  • A desire to work on a variety of project types.
  • A desire to work in a collaborative team environment to learn from and teach others.
  • A desire to work hands on such as field and manufacturing shop inspections.
  • CAD (AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit) skills are a plus.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Work on US Army Corps of Engineers projects or familiarity with Corps' design guidelines is a plus.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Compensation: $83,590 to $98,121 per year (depending on qualifications)
