Reporting to the lead Energy Trader, the successful candidate will be primarily responsible for contributing to and leading portions of the analytical efforts for the TerraForm Power portfolio across the US energy markets. The position plays a key role in developing tools to analyze assets and power markets, asset and trading positions and strategies, energy market fundamentals, asset and product structure valuation and other projects to assist in the growth of the commercial organization and the business. The role will utilize existing energy market tools and data sources, utilize existing TerraForm Power infrastructure, e.g., Databricks, as well as develop new tools, data structures and analytical processes to improve business capabilities, team efficiencies and performance results. In addition, the role will support Energy Management and Asset Management. In the Energy Management area, the analyst will perform energy market functions to ensure all assets are meeting contract and ISO requirements related to market activities and schedules. In the Asset Management area, the analyst will perform data analytics support for commercial obligations and commercial business performance. Responsibilities
- Assist in and lead the development and utilization of energy market tools; market information, price forecasting models, solar and wind forecast models, product valuation models, portfolio optimization analytics and market analytics;
- Develop new and maintain existing Power BI, Python and Tableau based tools to
- analyze and track trading data and forward positions, forward pricing, basis exposures and asset valuation inputs and
- manage asset and contract obligations, monthly business performance and business unit analytics as required to achieve optimal business performance;
- Develop and implement new business processes to drive business unit efficiencies, enhanced decision making and executive reporting;
- Research, validate assumptions, and quantify deviations between industry sources, market information, business unit forecasts and actual results;
- Complete generation schedules and market based contractual obligations as required by the business;
- Coordinate with the support teams, internal stakeholders and external vendors to develop and manage the data platforms and structures related to business unit data;
- Analyze data and provide insights to support the proprietary data warehousing and analytics platform utilized by the business;
- Work closely across the business unit functional areas and IT teams to support the long-term data platform strategy and data analytics approach and identify enhancements for both
Qualifications
- Understanding of wholesale power market economics and daily analysis related to market fundamentals, trading, hedging and optimization strategies across the renewable energy portfolio;
- Understanding of data and data analytics for the energy market; integrating data sources, establishing data structures and performing analytics to achieve targeted results;
- Demonstrated ability in using statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and explanatory modeling to identify trends;
- Understanding of data management and visualization practices;
- Comfortable working with large data sets;
- Able to meet multiple objectives in a dynamic, fast-paced, team environment;
- Ability to make decisions involving varied levels of risk and ambiguity;

- Familiarity with power system; generation and transmission systems, is an asset;

Required Skills and/or Experience
- Bachelor`s degree in finance, engineering, mathematics, computer science, information technology, or other related discipline;
- Experience in data or analytics engineering;
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel, data visualization tools and energy market tools, e.g., Hartigen, S&P, WoodMac, Yes Energy, and ETRMs is an asset;
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Python, VB, SQL, etc.); especially packages such as Pandas and Numpy, and other programming languages;
- Familiarity with Azure cloud environment and working with Data Factory and Data Brick is an asset
- Preferred three (3) to five (5) years of energy markets experience; advantaged to be in energy trading, energy market fundamentals research, energy market analytics, asset valuation or asset management
Salary Range: $110k - $145k
