Job Description:

The Senior Estimator is responsible for generating high quality, detailed and accurate estimates, change orders and proposals, that result in profitable project awards, in an effective and efficient manner. Responsibilities also include mentoring junior Estimators and Assistant Estimators.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understands and interprets, with accuracy, project blueprints, drawings, maps, bidding specifications, scope descriptions, contracts and related documents.
  • Operates a computerized bidding system with precision and speed.
  • Prepares estimates, proposals, accompanying cost information and schedules.
  • Schedules, coordinates and oversees in-house pre-construction meetings for awarded projects. Cooperates fully and supplies all information possible to Operations project team for all projects. Provides insight support throughout project on an as-needed basis to ensure awarded projects consistently perform at or below budget.
  • Recognizes and maintains the company's expectations, goals and requirements regarding profitability.
  • Attends company meetings and pre-bid meetings as required. On a rotational basis with other Senior Estimators, lead monthly Estimating Department meeting.
  • Addresses customer or prospective customers' requests for bids, estimates and proposals in a prompt, professional and courteous manner. Review bid invitations for scope and schedule to evaluate whether the projects align with Brubacher strategic initiatives.
  • Responsible for managing activities associated with business development, estimating, negotiating and contracting to sell the products and services of the company.
  • Promptly and consistently follows up with customers on submitted proposals. Provides input to the Estimating Coordinator and Director of Estimating & Project Management regarding bidding status of all projects and cooperates fully with overall bidding priorities.
  • Must be willing to work as a team with both co-workers and external customers. Shows initiative and enthusiasm in all interactions, promoting camaraderie within the department.
  • Is familiar with all rules, regulations and policies related to jobsite safety. Actively promotes accident prevention, promotes safe work practices, and assists in enforcement of all rules and regulations.

Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelors of Science in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management preferred.
  • At least 10 years in related construction estimating experience.
  • Track record of achieving consistent awards, on an annual basis, for projects that have performed profitably.
  • Requires good working knowledge of excavating and related equipment, material capabilities and personnel applications.
  • Requires adequate computer skills to efficiently operate with speed and accuracy computerized bidding system.
