Senior Finance Associate The Simons Foundation is seeking a Senior Finance Associate to join the accounting, tax and reporting team. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Finance, the Senior Finance Associate will be responsible for technical accounting and tax return preparation, focusing on grants, investments, and other complex technical areas. This is a full-time position based in our offices in New York City. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee the accounting and financial reporting for investment accounts and investment-related subsidiaries, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Record, track, and analyze investment activities for tax and GAAP reporting purposes. Maintain cost-basis investment schedules and calculate realized gains for tax reporting. Manage the technical accounting for grants, including reviewing and tracking conditional grants, calculating net present value discounts, and addressing any additional technical requirements that arise. With the Senior Manager of Finance, collaborate with external tax preparers to ensure the successful filing of federal and state returns. Prepare and maintain internal tax schedules for Form 990-PF and Form 990-T filings, manage related compliance processes. Support the foundation's compliance with IRS rules for private foundations and escalate issues as needed. Research technical accounting and tax issues and prepare memos to document complex matters/decisions. Coordinate with management, external auditors and tax accountants where appropriate Collaborate with cross-functional internal teams and the related family office, primarily on investments and grant-specific matters. Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, or account analysis related to the month-end and year-end close cycles as needed. Manage recurring reporting requirements and respond to external requests, including notices, audit confirmations, regulatory filings, and relevant surveys. Remain current on US GAAP, IRS regulations, and other regulatory developments impacting Private Foundations. Contribute to the design and implementation of new ERP system. Support ongoing efforts to improve processes and automate manual tasks. Propose strategies to make operations more efficient. Take on any additional responsibilities or special projects as needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education Bachelor's degree in accounting, tax, finance or business is preferred. Other degrees will be considered based on level of relevant experience. CPA or CPA license in progress is preferred. Experience A minimum of five years of relevant experience is required, with at least two years specializing in private foundations, either in public accounting or industry, preferred. Strong technical and computational accounting skills, with a solid understanding of US GAAP, IRS regulations for exempt organizations, and applicable industry standards. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Experience with large organizations with diverse business lines and complex investment portfolios is preferred. Related Skills & Other Requirements Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Demonstrated initiative, critical thinking, and the ability to prioritize tasks to deliver high-quality results on time. Adaptability to a dynamic, rapidly growing work environment. Strong team player while also having ability to manage work independently COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The full-time annual compensation range is $105,000 - $130,000 depending on experience.
