At Stony Brook Medicine, the Senior Financial Analyst is a valuable members of our team. The Senior Financial Analyst will be responsible for the General Accounting functions including preparing journal entries, maintaining balance sheet schedules, general ledger accounts and financial statements preparation. Assist with monthly closings, account analysis and supporting the Assistant Director and Director of Accounting in carrying out the responsibilities of the Accounting Department.Duties of a Senior Financial Analyst may include but, are not limited to:Prepare month end and year end journal entries.Prepare various reconciliations.Review various reconciliations prepared by Financial Analysts.Prepare month end and year end work papers.Review various month end and year end work papers prepared by Financial Analysts.Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements for monthly finance committee meetings.Assist with the preparation of annual financial statements for annual reporting.Prepare and maintain audit work papers.Assist with audits including calendar and fiscal year end audits.Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures.Assist with hiring and training Financial analysts within the department.Other projects / duties and assigned.QualificationsRequired : A minimum of a Bachelor s Degree in Accounting, and a minimum of 5 years of full-time accounting experience including at least 2 years of Hospital Accounting experience. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices. Knowledge of Finance Principles. Knowledge of Financial Reporting. Experience with data analysis skills and ability to synthesize and comprehend large quantities of data. Must be comfortable with use of technology and new software. Experience using an Accounting software.Preferred: Experience with monitoring construction projects costs and closing out the projects as they complete. A minimum of a Master of Business Administration. Experience with basic SQL queries and/or Tableau is a plus.
