And you can maximize your work-life balance and flexibility through our Hybrid Work Model.Job DescriptionPOSITION PURPOSEThe Senior Firmware Engineer will design, develop, and maintain firmware for sensors, RF technologies (BLE/Wi-Fi/Cellular/GNSS), devices, and systems. The role requires expertise in RTOS-based systems (e.g., FreeRTOS) and bare-metal development on ARM Cortex-M3 and M4 processors (e.g., Nordic, Silicon Labs, STM32).The engineer will architect and implement firmware solutions that optimize performance, enhance signal quality, and ensure seamless connectivity. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements, conduct comprehensive testing and debugging, and deliver high-quality, reliable firmware releases.In addition, the Senior Firmware Engineer will provide technical guidance to junior team members, contribute to architecture decisions, and stay abreast of advancements in embedded systems and wireless technologies.SCOPE•Global Role: Interact with teams across multiple regions to develop cutting-edge firmware solutions.MEASURES•Firmware Development: Contribute directly to the development, debugging, and optimization of firmware.•Workflow Management: Oversee and manage development schedules to meet project milestones.MAJOR / KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES•Translate system requirements into detailed design specifications for RTOS and bare-metal environments. Inclusive of architectural overviews, detailed software design specifications, and test requirements.•Design, develop, and test I/O communications, device drivers, and inter-chip protocols (I2C, SPI, UART).•Design, develop, and test network communications (Cellular, LPWAN, BLE, and WIFI ) using protocols such as MQTT•Develop and implement best practices in software development methodologies, including unit testing and continuous integration. Know how to write modular and extensible code.•Participate in technical reviews for system architecture, design, and firmware implementation.•Collaborate with global IT systems, operations, and cross-functional program management teams to integrate firmware with cloud platforms.•Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during hardware bring-up, production, and field operations.•Define and verify end-to-end system requirements, working closely with consultants, vendors, and contract manufacturers.CHALLENGES / PROBLEM SOLVING •Collaborating with stakeholders unfamiliar with product development methodologies including agile, design thinking, and digital product management•Balancing the needs and milestones of individual products against ensuring a balanced portfolio that follows the product lifecycle•Working in a truly global role across different time zones and cultures•Working in a new digital organization that is still growing and forming, so handling ambiguity is key to the role•Responsible for defining and verifying end-to-end system requirements and developing hardware including integration with the cloud platforms by closely working with consultants, vendors, and contract manufacturers.•Troubleshoot technical issues during bring up, production and operations.KEY CONTACTS Internal: Agile PMO lead, Digital strategy and execution lead, Operation Team, Product owner(s) and SW Development TeamExternal: Contract Manufacturer, Component Supplier and Third-party vendorQUALIFICATIONS •Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 5+ years of experience in related fields.•MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field is preferred with 3+ years of experience.Desirable Qualifications:•Relevant agile qualification•Relevant project management qualificationEXPERIENCEHands on experience in:•Bare metal and Real-time Operating systems (e.g, FreeRTOS, Zephyr)•Networking Protocols - TCP/IP, UDP, MQTT, CoAP, SNTP•Developing and debugging over Wi-Fi, BLE, and Cellular networks•Sensor driver experience (accelerometers, gyro, GPS, humidity, temperature) and actuators.•Serial communication protocols: I2C, SPI, UART.•Experience in Cloud platforms (AWS) for use in OTA and device telemetry•Experience in ARM Cortex-M based microcontrollers (SiLabs, STM32, Nordic).•Experience with Atlassian tools (JIRA, Bitbucket, confluence etc.) and configuration to work in an agile software environment for development testing and issues management.•Experience in hardware debug tools such as debuggers (JTAG)/protocol analyzers / Oscilloscopes / Multi-meters/etc.•Hands-on in LTE-M1, NB-IoT is a plusSKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE •Creative, motivated, driven.
