Senior Geotechnical Engineer (must have P.E.)

In this role, you will provide overall management oversight on geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing projects for multiple clients within the engineering group's solar engineering market. No solar experience is necessary, but we do require a background in either Geotechnical or Civil Engineering, plus an existing P.E., plus at least 8 years engineering experience and the ability to relocate to Ann Arbor, Michigan.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a big impact on our organization managing a fast-growing multi-million dollar client program. The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will:

+ Plan, organize, and administer project execution activities to support the needs of clients on multiple geotechnical and solar energy engineering projects.

+ Maintain contact with past and present clients to develop leads and maintain relationships

+ Coordinate project teams to develop proposal effort, strategy, and budget to deliver winning proposals

+ Provide senior review and obtain appropriate technical input for proposal/project execution efforts

+ Develop and secure new contracts with new & existing clients

+ Manage assigned staff ensuring appropriate resourcing of projects.

REQUIREMENTS

• Education: Bachelor's degree in either civil engineering or geotechnical engineering

• P.E. License (Professional Engineering)

• Minimum 8 years of related experience in geotechnical engineering and/or civil engineering

• At least 5 years project management experience and familiarity with policies and regulations affecting the geotechnical engineering market. Also, supervisory experience leading other engineers / leading a small team of engineers with direct reports

• Ability to relocate to Ann Arbor/Detroit Michigan and maintain a hybrid work schedule

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Use your knowledge of geotechnical engineering in a solar market sector application, including identifying opportunities and risks and develops strategies to penetrate the market, identify clients and win projects.

• Work with client staff members to identify, develop, and propose on future work assignments.

• Manage project execution including proposal development, project organization, subcontractor management, scheduling, financial management, health and safety stewardship and quality.

• Effectively use workflows and processes to secure project resources, complete proposals, develop contracts, maintain project records, monitor project execution, bill clients, and collect receivables.

• Work effectively with Project Managers and technical project support staff to monitor and control projects to achieve financial target metrics for all projects.

• Mentor and coach project team members and provides constructive feedback on performance.

• Lead project teams to meet or exceed client expectations while meeting industry standard of care.

• Provide supervision of dedicated staff within solar program team. Manages direct reports consisting of Project Managers, project engineers and other field staff.

• Coordinate with Company/Office leadership to monitor project management performance and provide mentoring and career guidance related to project management.

• Manage teams and work with the appropriate resources regardless of location.

• Provide clear performance expectations and consistent, timely and quality feedback.

• Coordinate with project teams for additional resources when needed and uses appropriate leverage.

• Identify out-of-scope items and eliminates “scope creep” and/or secures amendments and change orders for additional services.

• Communicate and coordinate with client and project stakeholders to keep project on budget and schedule.

• Work closely with clients and others to identify new or add-on project opportunities.

• Exceed client and stakeholder schedules and deadlines.

• Demonstrate understanding and commitment to risk assessment and the Health and Safety planning hierarchy by conducting risk reviews for high-hazard work at the proposal stage, and budgeting for Health and Safety for each project in the portfolio.

• Conduct management site visits, provide recognition, coach and mentor junior staff for effective project safety management, etc.

• Demonstrate commitment to vetting and managing subcontractors for safety success.
