Senior Heavy Truck DriverSalary$17.28 - $19.00 HourlyLocationCrestview, FLJob TypeFull-TimeJob Number24-280DepartmentPublic WorksOpening Date11/14/2024Closing Date1/1/2025 11:59 PM Central* Description* QuestionsGENERAL STATEMENT OF JOBDrives heavy duty trucks in the hauling and distribution of materials.EXAMPLES OF WORK* Operates hydraulic dump trucks, flat-beds, loaders, rollers and four-wheel drive pickups.* Inspects trucks, tools and equipment; ensures that trucks, tools and equipment are properly maintained.* Performs maintenance and repair on trucks, tools and equipment.* Uses electrical equipment and hand and gas-powered tools, such as chainsaws, rakes, shovels and hammers to perform assigned duties.* Assists with traffic control at work sites.* Performs physical labor in the maintenance, restoration and construction of roadways and drainage systems.* Cuts trees, limbs and shrubbery on right-of-ways; clears ditches, culverts, drains, gutters and beaver dams.* Assists with training staff in the operation of light and heavy trucks as well as the paperwork associated with daily operations. (Daily Field Data Sheet, Load Tickets, etc.)* Performs other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation, Training, and Experience: High school diploma or GED supplemented by two (2) years' experience in the operation of light to heavy duty trucks and/or related equipment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.Licenses and/or Certifications: Requires a valid class B commercial driver license with air brakes.OTHER REQUIREMENTSPhysical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate heavy duty trucks, to include vehicles with hydraulic braking systems, and various hand held manual and gas-powered tools and equipment. Must be able to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 20 to 50 pounds frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push and pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must be able to perform manual tasks and remain on feet for extended periods of time.Language Ability: Must be able to communicate effectively in Standard English, and to convey information to others.Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; to deal with problems involving concrete variables in situations where limited standardized exists; to make independent judgments in the absence of supervisor; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.Numerical Aptitude: Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide; to determine weight; may require the ability to calculate decimals and percentages.Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergencies or tight deadlines.
