WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We are looking to hire a Senior Systems Administrator to join our High Performance Computing team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully working with Linux operating systems in enterprise environments. Additionally, they should possess strong scripting language skills and demonstrate a keen interest in learning about emerging High Performance Computing technologies.

The candidate's technical proficiency should be complemented by a consultant mindset, including excellent communication skills, a problem-solving mentality, and the ability to maintain a positive attitude in high-pressure situations. Overall, we are looking for a candidate who is excited about being part of a high performing group and will be energized to help the HPC Operations team succeed.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and Configure Cray systems, including the Cray Linux Environment, using tools such as the System Management Workstation.
  • Setup, configure, and manage Linux-based compute clusters, including GPU-based compute environments.
  • Employ expert-level knowledge of PBS and general job scheduling techniques to optimize workload management.
  • Administer and configure UNIX/Linux systems, including setup, configuration, patch management, and security vulnerability remediation.
  • Apply high-level programming skills (sh, csh, J2EE, PERL, CGI, HTML, C/C++, Python) and development methodologies to automate system administration functions.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize client-side use of Network Attached Storage(NAS) and parallel files systems.
  • Integrate, support and maintain key engineering applications on Cray, Linux, and Windows Servers, ensuring their proper functioning and availability for batch users..
  • Manage and maintain FlexLM and license management systems on UNIX and Windows platforms.
  • Ensure UNIX/Linux systems are kept up-to-date with the latest patches and effectively address security vulnerabilities.
  • Provide proficient support and troubleshooting for Infiniband networks and their supporting infrastructure.
  • Utilize Docker, container technologies, Kubernetes, and/or Docker Swarm for efficient deployment and management of applications.
  • Utilize high-level experience with HP and Dell server hardware, including remote iLo support and base configurations.
  • Manage VMWare, VM ESXi, and VDI environments, ensuring their stability and availability.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for escalations related to standard HPC infrastructure and software.
  • Collaborate with client management at all levels to provide best-in-class support and address their infrastructure needs.

SOME MUST-HAVES:

  • 7+ years of experience with Linux, especially RedHat and CentOS.
  • Scripting with Python, Bash, or Perl.
  • Experience with license managers, e.g. Flex and RLM.
  • Knowledge of virtualization solutions and techniques.
  • Experience with batch schedulers (PBS, Slurm, and/or Platform LSF).
  • Basic web knowledge (HTTP, XML, CSS).
  • Experience in maintaining an enterprise environment with mixed operating systems.
  • Interested in learning HPC and growing technically.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience working in a virtualized server environment.
WHERE WE'RE LOOKING FOR IT

Must live local: Schenectady, New YorkCurrently 2 days/week on-site in the NY Capital Region.

OTHER INFORMATION

The work hours will be approximately 8:00 am to 5:00 pm EST, depending on workload, with the occasional late night when a tight deadline calls for it. We work for security-conscious clients, thus background checks will be required. Salary dependent upon experience.
