Senior Irrigation TechLocationParks and RecreationWork StatusFull TimeTHIS POSITION WILL BE OPEN UNTIL FILLED.SALARY: $19.90 - 24.88 Hourly USDJOB SUMMARY:Under general supervision, performs skilled trades work in the systematic repair, replacement, and/or redesign of the City's irrigation systems.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Design, maintain, layout, and install irrigation systems by considering water conservation, existing and proposed landscaping capacity, water flow rates, and time sequencing of existing systems. Repair and replace pumps, main feeder and lateral lines, PVC pipes, irrigation heads, radio-controlled valves and controls, and electronically controlled water sensors and replace low voltage wiring. Develop watering schedule for irrigation system. Oversee irrigation system preventative maintenance program. Monitor grounds during special events to ensure protection of system. Report grounds condition and water or turf losses due to system malfunction. Control grounds irrigation water utilization to ensure water conservation. Meet with water resource agencies and advise management on development of grounds water conservation policy. Develop emergency plan for water and irrigation utilization. Recommend new irrigation projects. Review contractor change orders to ensure design compatibility with installation concepts and existing grounds master plan. Monitor contractor work. keep abreast of current trends in irrigation systems by reviewing publications and attending local training opportunities. Provide input for overall grounds planning and for development and revision of grounds handbook. Develop and implement training program in water conservation for staff. Order parts and maintain parts inventory. Review blueprints, collect and organize materials, provide cost estimates and equipment for each job assignment.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Working Conditions. Knowledge of irrigation methods, tools, and materials used in irrigation maintenance. Knowledge of principles and practices of irrigation construction, hydraulics, control devices, and piping requirements. Knowledge of water conservation techniques and turf maintenance practices. Knowledge of regulations applicable to work being performed, i.e., state regulations and codes. Knowledge of purchasing and inventory control principles and procedures. Knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and computerized irrigation systems. Skill in communicating with city staff and the public by oral and written means. Skill in working from drawing, blueprints, plans and specifications. Ability to receive detailed information through oral and written communication. Ability to receive exercise discretion and independent judgment. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including but not limited to, seeing, stooping, twisting body, carrying, lifting, and walking. Ability to operate a motorized vehicle. Ability to operate a variety of maintenance equipment including but not limited to hand tools, large tractor, trencher, backhoe, and specialized equipment. Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including but not limited to PC, various computer software, copiers, telephone, fax machine, and calculator. Ability to work outdoors and withstand extremes of weather and temperature. Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including weekends, holidays, and evenings, as required.Qualifying Education and Experience: High School Degree, plus one-year experience in irrigation repair, maintenance, and operations. Must obtain an Irrigation Technician License and a Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT) License within six (6) months of employment. OR possess/obtain a Licensed Irrigator License within twelve (12) months of employment.Employment Screenings Required: Criminal background check Motor Vehicle review Drug and Alcohol Testing Physical Examination Human Performance Evaluation (HPE)
