Job Description:

The Real Estate Counsel will provide essential legal support to various teams engaged in the development, construction, and management of innovative renewable energy projects. The organization is a prominent player in the energy sector, committed to advancing sustainable solutions through cutting-edge technology and responsible practices. This hybrid position, based in Houston, TX, requires a strong foundation in real estate law, particularly as it relates to renewable energy initiatives, to help drive the company's mission of facilitating a greener future.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal expertise in drafting, negotiating, and managing real estate agreements for projects involving wind, solar, and energy storage across all project phases.
  • Support permitting activities by ensuring adherence to regulatory frameworks and negotiating related agreements with local, state, and federal authorities.
  • Draft and negotiate a variety of real estate contracts, liaising with landowners and their legal representatives as needed.
  • Facilitate mergers and acquisitions, as well as project financing, by reviewing transaction documents, conducting due diligence, and responding to inquiries from counterparties.
  • Collaborate with project paralegals to create necessary real estate documentation, such as leases, easements, and title policies.
  • Oversee title policy issuance, including reviewing title commitments and coordinating efforts to resolve title-related issues.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring adherence to timelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Engage with external legal resources to optimize task efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited institution.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in renewable energy, commercial real estate, or title insurance.
  • Strong understanding of real estate title matters, including deeds, leases, and financing structures.
  • Admission to practice law in Texas is required.
  • Prior experience with renewable energy projects is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain productivity under pressure.
  • Comfortable collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders.
