Job Description:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB This classification is responsible for assisting in the construction, repair and maintenance of City roadways and right of ways. This position will require experience in making concrete and asphalt repairs within the right of way. This position is subject to be included in the off-hours, on-call response service. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential Functions:
  • Performs repairs and maintenance of City rights-of-ways and roadways where typical work will consist of:
  • Makes concrete repairs on sidewalks, curb and gutters, drain tops and where applicable.
  • Performs asphalt paving and pothole repairs on City roadways.
  • Repairs damaged storm drain pipes
  • Supervises crew in absence of Crew Leader on projects
  • Removes dead animals from roadway and rights-of-way
  • Operates equipment such as but not limited to dump trucks, brush tractor, grappler truck, chainsaws, weed eaters, edgers, blowers, chipper, mowers, etc.
  • Flags traffic at construction and maintenance projects
  • Performs roadside tree and vegetation control and emergency hazard response
  • Performs and assist with inclement weather removal within the roadway and rights-of-way
  • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards
  • Operates a city vehicle and or equipment; conducts pre- and post-trip inspections including checking all fluids, gauges, lighting, mirrors, tires, body damage, seats and seatbelts, and cleanliness of assigned vehicle.
  • Conducts general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment, and tools in operable condition.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment, parts and supplies: initiates work orders materials and equipment needed for each job; conducts routine safety inspections on equipment; advises supervisor of needed repairs.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable code, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Five (5) years of experience in concrete construction and asphalt road repairs is required
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's license (CDL). Other certifications may be required upon employment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED Physical Requirements: This position classifies the physical exertion requirements of tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, smoke, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, unsafe structures, heights, confined spaces, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, toxic agents, animal/wildlife attacks, animal/human bites, or rude/irate customers.
