JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
* Strategic- Responsible for developing relationships and executing strategies that result in major gift income (in this role, defined as individual gifts/pledges of $50,000 to $1 Million or more) to Cincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical Center. This position will maintain a portfolio of 100-150 prospects and his/her work is expected to result in $1.5 million to $3 million annually.
* Individual Giving Specific- Identify, assess, cultivate, solicit and close five, six and seven figure gifts from individuals. Develops cultivation and solicitation strategies for each individual. Establishes a program of face to face personal visits with past, current and prospective donors. Strategically move major gift prospects through the development cycle from qualification to cultivation to solicitation to closing to stewardship. Understands, identifies, suggests and utilizes multiple giving vehicles for the donor. Uses moves management database system to track progress and results. Meets monthly and yearly metrics with respect to prospect and donor visits, solicitations, and dollars raised. Coordinates donor interests with the priorities of the organization and develops funding proposals to match interests with needs. Coordinate stewardship reports to communicate with donors concerning the use of their gifts.
* Foundation Specific- Develops and cultivates relationships with program officers at foundations and other non-profit organizations to learn about their objectives and focus, show how Cincinnati Children's would be a good match for achieving their objectives, and obtain an invitation to apply for funding. Prepares and submits letters of intent and grant proposals asking for $100K and higher. Works with Director to determine appropriate project matches for foundation opportunities and requests for proposals. Oversees distribution of leads to department liaisons for research and medical divisions. Collaborate with manager to secure appropriate clearances/approvals for divisions and departments seeking funding. Work with appropriate staff and faculty to obtain information and materials for grant applications, collaborating with department liaisons to secure these materials, where appropriate. Prepare and submit required grant reports regarding use of funding. Collaborate with research team to maintain current, rolling calendar of grant deadlines and foundation opportunities. Collaborate with the Office of Sponsored Programs to ensure that foundation and charitable awards tracked through Sponsored Programs are appropriately recorded by Development as charitable gifts.
* Planned Giving Specific- Executes strategies and develops donor relationships that result in individual donors making significant planned and/or deferred estate gifts to Cincinnati Childrens. Manages a portfolio of approximately 150 donors and prospects identified as likely to make an estate gift to the medical center. Cultivates and solicits both current annual, major and deferred gifts from individual donors by working with the Individual Giving Officers. Upgrades consistent annual gift donors by encouraging them to add deferred estate gifts through wills, trusts, retirement assets, life insurance, real estate, etc. Stewards deferred planned gifts to ensure donors keep Cincinnati Children's in their plans as a beneficiary upon death. Builds relationships with the professional advisor community, planning events and speaking to their firms to advocate to their clients to support the hospital with a planned gift. Understands and remains current on legal and tax aspects of complex gift planning techniques.
* External Communications- Senior Major Gift Officers also fulfill an important, externally-oriented role, representing Cincinnati Childrens to donors, prospects, medical center leaders, volunteers and potentially, national resources as part of the overall effort to raise awareness of and generate support for Cincinnati Childrens both locally and nationally. Specific tasks may include preparing written and verbal presentations and proposals and delivering this information personally to potential funders, representing CCHMC at family foundation and not-for -profit board meetings, communicating on behalf of CCHMC in donor meetings, at events, in fund-raising committee meetings and at check presentations. Responsible for all written communications with donors, such as gift verification letters and emails, gift agreement drafts, stewardship reports and email messages to coordinate medical center donor visits with leadership. Helps lead, recruit and staff campaign and special project committees.
* Crossfunctional Project Management: Lead one or more targeted major gift fund-raising projects and are accountable for reaching project goals. Serves a leader and point person for major gift and grateful patient fundraising referrals and activities with approximately five or more internal clinical/research divisions with the hospital, developing funding opportunities and leading others with prospects interested in their areas of responsibility, and managing a Foundation Board Task Force focused on a priority fundraising area. Must remain current on legal and programmatic changes affecting development functions.
