Our client, an in-house agency of a telecom company in NYC, is looking for a temp-to-perm Sr. Manager, Business Affairs with a specialized focus on talent contracting. This role requires extensive expertise in SAG-AFTRA agreements, talent and budget management, legal and rights management, music and licensing, and risk assessment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing business affairs within an agency environment and will play a critical role in ensuring compliance, minimizing risks, and driving seamless negotiations and agreements for talent engagements.
This is a hybrid position and requires 2-3 days/week onsite in Downtown Manhattan.
Responsibilities:
- Talent Contracting: Oversee all aspects of talent contracting, including drafting, negotiating, and finalizing agreements in compliance with SAG-AFTRA guidelines and other union regulations.
- SAG Expertise: Serve as the in-house expert on SAG-AFTRA policies, ensuring all projects adhere to union rules and regulations.
- Budget Management: Collaborate with finance and production teams to manage talent budgets, ensuring financial efficiency while meeting creative and contractual requirements.
- Legal and Rights Management: Work closely with legal teams to secure necessary rights, clearances, and permissions for talent usage and music licensing.
- Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks in contracts and projects, providing strategic solutions to mitigate issues.
- Problem-Solving: Act as a point of escalation for complex contractual and operational issues, resolving challenges efficiently.
- Talent Management: Foster strong relationships with talent, agents, and managers, acting as a trusted liaison between creative teams and business stakeholders.
- Licensing Oversight: Handle music and content licensing agreements to ensure proper usage rights for productions.
- Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams, including creative, production, legal, and finance, to support seamless project execution.
- Industry Knowledge: Stay informed about industry trends, union updates, and legal changes to anticipate impacts on business operations.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in business affairs management within an agency business affairs environment.
- Deep expertise in SAG-AFTRA agreements and union regulations.
- Proven experience in talent contracting, budget management, and rights clearance.
- Strong understanding of legal principles related to intellectual property, licensing, and talent agreements.
- Exceptional risk assessment and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and negotiate complex agreements with multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal teams and external partners.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Knowledge of music licensing and rights management is highly desirable.
