The Baseball Data Platform team is looking to hire a Senior Software Engineering Manager in our New York office. This is a hands-on role for a manager prepared to support individuals and teams solving complex distributed problems and enhancing our portfolio of baseball data products. You will partner with business stakeholders, product managers, and cross-functional engineering teams to facilitate the design and implementation of new, engaging features for our users. You will join a team that has been responsible for the collection, analysis, and distribution of Emmy Award-winning Statcast data since the product's inception in 2015. This team is still at the forefront of technological innovation in sports, developing advancements such as the Automated Balls & Strikes system (ABS), which is set to debut at the Major League level during spring training 2025. This is a unique opportunity for the right person to join our team and help shape the way fans consume the game for years to come. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned manager with a deep knowledge of the software development lifecycle, experience supporting teams of engineers as they evolve in their careers, and a background in data delivery via highly scalable distributed systems. Responsibilities
- Manage a team of software engineers in a fast paced and agile environment
- Collaborate with engineering and product leadership to develop engineering roadmaps
- Support and empower engineers as they transform requirements into actionable development plans
- Adopt modern platforms and manage resources to optimize value
- Champion Agile processes
- Work cross functionally to align on business critical initiatives, sequencing, and delivery
- Contribute to our inclusive culture to ensure team satisfaction and engagement
Qualifications and Skills
- 5+ years of experience developing large, scalable web services and APIs
- 2+ years of experience leading one or more teams of 3-5 software engineers
- Proficiency in back-end technologies including Java (Spring) and JavaScript/Typescript (Node)
- Proficiency in front-end technologies including ES6, Typescript, React, HTML, CSS
- Experience in the following technical areas:
- Designing and implementing high availability distributed systems
- Cloud service (GCP, AWS, etc.) and API architecture
- Observability and application performance monitoring
- Cloud-native tooling such as Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform
- Content delivery networks such as Cloudflare, Fastly, Akamai
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Per the NYC pay transparency law, the hiring range for this position is $160,000 - $205,000. As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills and any other factors Major League Baseball (MLB) considers relevant to the hiring decision.
