Description SAIC is seeking a Mechanical Engineer in Crane, IN to support the U.S. Navy.JOB DESCRIPTIONThis position will provide mechanical engineering support for shipboard integration engineering support, for implementation for embedded, shipboard energy storage systems and energy storage enclosures for military application. Job Duties Include:Characterizing large-scale battery Maximum Credible Event (MCE) / Worst Case Event (WCE), developing failure modes and effects, Li-ion fire mitigation and suppression concepts, prototyping battery-agnostic containment solutions, and examining Li-ion and other alternative energy storage viabilityEngineering support and requirements development for electrical, mechanical, controls and mitigation solutions for the identified system and the interfaces of the integrated shipboard environmentAssist with engineering investigations on Power and Energy systems, energy storage enclosures and support processes. Engineering investigations require familiarity with capabilities and limitations of commercial failure and material analysis of non-destructive and destructive analysis for lithium-ion and silver-zinc chemistry energy storage systems, enclosure and mitigation systemsInvestigations and review of studies, analysis, evaluations, and assessments provided to the governmentQualifications REQUIREMENTSBachelor's Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 5 years of experienceMust be able to obtain a Secret Clearance; Interim Secret needed to startMust be a U.S. citizenProficient with using at least one industry standard Computer Aided Design (CAD) softwarePosition will require usage of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Cameo tool in regular dutiesDESIREDExperience with thermal and/or gas transfer of combustible systemsExperience with thermal characteristics of battery systemsExperience with fire detection/suppression/annunciation control systemsExperience with design to meet DoD or commercial shock requirementsExperience with design to meet DoD or commercial mechanical vibrations requirementsExperience with DoD maritime platform integration to shipboard control systems SAIC accepts applications on an ongoing basis and there is no deadline.Covid Policy: SAIC does not require COVID-19 vaccinations or boosters.
