Job Description:

Our client in Vienna, Virginia is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their team.

This is an onsite/full-time/direct hire position

Salary based on experience: $115K - $130K

Our customer in the Vienna,VA area is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join an innovative startup dedicated to eliminating concussions in sports. Theyre building a team of mission-driven, results-oriented engineers, businesspeople, designers, and more who enjoy solving problems and making a massive impact on their communities.

About You:

You are an experienced maker with a curiosity about how things work and how they are made. You are action-oriented and readily able to develop both physical and analytical models to prove hypotheses, improve product designs, and create inventions. You are detail-oriented and know that slowing down by anticipating problems and managing risks proactively, is key to speeding up later on. This person will be resourceful, organized, and excited to work in a startup environment where everyday work directly impacts the overall companys success. You are driven to take on whatever challenges arise and prepared to lead or follow as the situation demands.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and ready for manufacture new hardware products and establish all monitors and controls, on time and on budget.
  • Build models (physical and simulation) to rapidly and accurately test hypotheses.
  • Collect, analyze, and synthesize engineering test data related to hardware products.
  • Proactively identify new materials and manufacturing processes to improve product offerings.
  • Prototype with a variety of materials and processes, including but not limited to foams, fabrics, composites, silicone molding, metals, plastics, 3D printing, CNC, RF welding, etc.
  • Establish and manage contract manufacturing, supplier, and consultant relationships.
  • Communicate complex technical topics simply to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Create inventions and provide technical expertise to IP protection efforts.
  • Develop long-term company and product goals while maintaining short-term daily and/or weekly task schedules

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Biomedical engineering (or related field)
  • 5+ years experience engineering and manufacturing softgoods, fabrics, medical devices, fluid delivery systems, and/or composites
  • Experience leading the transition of a product from Proof of Concept (POC) through commercialization
  • Experience with CAD design software (Solidworks or equivalent) and building products and prototypes from CAD models
  • Experience developing creative solutions to engineering challenges in an early-stage company environment
  • Experience with rapid prototyping of components and assemblies of complex hardware products
  • Experience managing the quality of products developed by an overseas contract manufacturer
  • Desire to create incredible products and be challenged daily
  • Willingness to take on any task that moves the company forward, no ego
  • Passion for the mission of traumatic brain injury prevention
  • Permanent work authorization in the United States

Preferred

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Biomedical engineering (or related field)
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead teams, both employees and contractors
  • Experience designing, prototyping, and building electrical systems
  • Experience working in regulated or semi-regulated industries, i.e., medical devices, personal protective equipment, military
  • Experience leading the selection and establishment of a contract manufacturing partner
  • Experience developing finite element models
  • Experience protecting intellectual property (IP), including, but not limited to leading IP sweeps, conducting prior art searches, writing new disclosures, working with attorneys
  • Experience writing federal grant proposals and managing work funded by federal grants
