Onto Innovation strives to optimize customers' critical path of progress by making them smarter, faster and more efficient.Job Summary & ResponsibilitiesSeeking an experienced Opto-Mechanical design engineer with a demonstrated track record of complex high precision optics design and a focus on engineering fundamentals. The role's responsibilities will include:* CAD mechanical design using CREO, Solidworks.* Managing large assemblies and system layouts using reference geometry and incorporating the use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).* Perform feasibility studies and tolerance analysis.* Conduct Finite Element Analysis (using Ansys and/or Solidworks) and other various analysis including vibration, thermal, and fluid.* Drive conceptual and detailed design, using 3D solid modeling (SolidWorks/Creo) and guide the selection of material and components.* Participate in and lead design reviews to acquire a peer-oriented design assessment.* Communicate requirements, timelines, and deliverables clearly in written and verbal formats.* Work with cross-functional groups to gather requirements.* Build prototypes, validate designs, and support system integration.* Generating technical documentation (e.g., detailed drawings, analysis results, test reports, etc.) for the work at hand.* Drive the process for releasing parts and assemblies within the change management infrastructure, including product structure for manufacturing and service.* Release designs to manufacturing and support the handoff from engineering to production.* Lead opto-mechanism projects from the concept design phase to production.QualificationsDesired qualifications:* In-depth understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding fabrication and castings, sheet metal forming, and 3D printing.* Basic/intermediate knowledge of precision machine design.* Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, including design principles, machine elements, materials, fabrication methods.* Solid understanding of statics, mechanics of materials, fluid flow, and heat transfer.* Experience in 3D solid modeling (Creo or SolidWorks preferred).* Experience with PDM systems (Windchill preferred).* Experience implementing motion control systems.* Strong written and verbal communications skills.* Experience driving requirements and working with cross-functional teams.* Experience leading a project through the different phases of the product life cycle including leading/managing a small team of engineers assigned to the project.* Desire to contribute to the team efforts to accomplish an overall objective.* Demonstrate perseverance and a drive to be better.* Detail oriented with outstanding organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.* Ability to design in a R&D environment, adapt, and persevere in the fast-paced semiconductor industry.* Ability to lead small teams of engineers.* Experience/knowledge in several of these areas is desirable: opto-mechanical systems, vacuum systems, design of inspection equipment or similar instruments, motion controls, electronics, tooling & test fixture design, supplier management, new product introduction, manufacturing support.Minimum qualifications: Master's Level Degree with at least 4 years of experience OR Bachelor's Level Degree with at least 6 years of experienceOnto Innovation Inc. offers competitive salaries and a generous benefits package, including health/dental/vision/life/disability, PTO, 401K plan with employer match, and an Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP) along with health & wellness initiatives.
