Looking for a lifetime career Apply today!Job DescriptionThe Naval Nuclear Laboratory's Valve Engineering unit is seeking a mechanical engineer to identify and incubate innovations in valve technology. As a member of the Valve Engineering innovation team, you will hunt opportunities to improve valve performance, reduce costs, reduce manufacturing span, reduce maintenance needs, and apply valve technologies in new ways to solve problems for the fleet. You will use a combination of design, analysis, and testing to rapidly develop these new technologies. You will combine a strong technical foundation with creative inspiration to help Valve Engineering scale up its programmatic impact. If you are looking for a new challenge in the innovation sphere, the Valve Engineering unit is the right place for you!Required Combination of Knowledge and SkillBachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 6 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part I qualified; or EDO qualified and 2 years EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or 3 years SRE qualified and Water Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and Fuel and Barrier Shift Supervisor (ECF only); or SRE qualified and 6 years of experience.Preferred SkillsThe following skills and characteristics are not required for this position but are considered nice to have. Pay Range$91,500 - $143,000 annuallyNote the salary information provided above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets.
