Position Overview: We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Microgrid Power Electronics Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role focuses on the design, development, and optimization of power electronics systems within microgrid applications, particularly emphasizing grid-forming algorithms, virtual synchronous generators, and their integration into modern power systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop power electronic control systems for microgrid applications, with a focus on grid-forming converters, seamless transfer, and virtual synchronous generators.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate renewable energy sources, energy storage solutions, and virtual power plants.
  • Implement virtual inertia and damping to stabilize grid frequency and mitigate oscillations to improve grid stability and response during fluctuations.
  • Implement digital twin technologies for microgrid simulation and optimization.
  • Conduct simulations and modeling to optimize system performance and reliability.
  • Validate power electronics and power system models.
  • Implement load forecasting and automatic generation control (AGC) to maintain microgrid balance and reliability.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and team members.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends related to power electronics and microgrids.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field (Ph.D. preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in power electronics control, particularly in microgrid or renewable energy applications.
  • Proficiency in simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, PSCAD, etc).
  • Strong understanding of power conversion technologies, including inverters, converters, and energy storage systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with the principles, control, and applications of grid-forming converters
  • Experience with virtual power plants and their integration into microgrid systems.
  • Knowledge of virtual synchronous generators: active damping techniques and virtual inertia concepts
  • Proficiency in digital twin technologies for microgrid applications.
  • Familiar with energy production, distribution, and consumption, allowing seamless operation in different microgrid modes (grid-connected and Islanded).
  • Knowledge of relevant standards and grid codes in the USA.
