Job Description:

Our Supermajor Power and Gas client is looking for a Direct Hire, Senior Operational Compliance Analyst for their Commodity Trade division in Houston, TX (Hybrid, Downtown). You will be responsible for understanding federal, state, and local regulatory frameworks, maintaining and updating risk control procedures, managing Swap reporting, and developing responses to changing regulatory environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee regulatory and risk mitigation activities, ensuring that controls are current and aligned with ongoing regulatory practices.
  • Manage L2 CFTC Swap Reporting for a dynamic and evolving power business, including analyzing contracts, working with data feeds (API, FTP), and using internal risk systems.
  • Ensure trading operations comply with domestic financial and physical regulations (e.g., CFTC, FERC, EIA, state utility commissions) and internal risk and compliance policies.
  • Report trading activities efficiently and accurately to management and regulators.
  • Identify and report any breaches in daily compliance processes to Compliance Management and the Head of Risk Control.
  • Analyze and reconcile daily compliance issues, coordinating with relevant channels for investigation and resolution.
  • Handle operational risk requests from national regulatory authorities.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation and reports for audit and retention purposes.
  • Continuously reviewing and improving operational procedures and the compliance framework by identifying vulnerabilities, implementing corrective actions, and collaborating with other departments on compliance tool development.
  • Educate and support trading and trade support functions.
  • Assist global operational risk teams with European and Asian reporting processes (e.g., EMIR, REMIT, MIFID II, MAS, ASIC).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Economics, Finance, or a related discipline is required.
  • A graduate degree in Economics, Finance, Business, Mathematics, or a quantitative discipline is preferred. Professional certification is a plus.
  • 3 to 7 years of experience in operational or market compliance, ideally within a commodity trading environment.
  • Familiarity with swap reporting and compliance reporting for US commodities and financial trading is essential.
  • A solid understanding of finance and risk management methodologies.
  • Comfort with legal texts and the ability to translate these into actionable day-to-day processes.
  • Proficiency in numerical analysis and computer literacy, including advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and scripting tools such as Python or Alteryx.
