We are seeking multi-faceted, highly motivated individuals to fill the entry-level role of Senior Parks/Facilities Maintenance Workers in the Southern Parks Division.Under the supervision of a Parks/Facilities Maintenance Leader, this role performs skilled Senior Parks/Facilities maintenance work involving considerable responsibility, complexity, and variety. The successful candidate will support various park maintenance programs and perform a variety of general park maintenance tasks such as equipment operation, routine ground maintenance, playground repairs, trash removal, local athletic field renovation and maintenance, trail maintenance, tree planting, pruning, and aftercare by working with other team members. The ideal candidate should possess skills to operate non-CDL trucks, tractors with attachments, large riding mowers, loaders, and forklifts and apply chemical pesticides. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.Operate non-CDL riding mowers and tractors with attachments to mow parks, ballfields, and brush.Operate non-CDL trucks, truck and trailer combinations, trash trucks, front-end loaders, backhoe, skid steer, and dump trucks with snowplows and heavy equipment removing snow, grading fields, and other park areas.Haul materials and equipment.Perform routine safety inspection and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.Occasionally perform routine custodial maintenance and repairs to park buildings and structures.Maintain athletic fields including layout of fields (measure, plot, and square corners, plot yard lines, and mark lines) and aerate, overseed, and fertilize turf areas.Install amenities such as signs, grills, picnic tables, fence (chain link and split rail), basketball rims, and nets.Perform tree maintenance duties. Operate chain saws. Operate chipping machine to grind brush into mulch.Operate stump grinder to remove tree stumps.Perform routine playground maintenance and high-frequency safety inspections on area playgrounds. Working as a team and under direction, apply playground wood mulch and make repairs to playground structures.Assist with transporting supplies and setting up special events.Provide general assistance to park visitors and assist with programs and events.Ability to communicate in another language a plus.Performs stormwater facilities preventive maintenance according to the Department of Environment protection standards.Maintain bioretention and rain garden facilities with balanced vegetation free of weeds.Important Skills and Characteristics:Knowledge of work procedures, steps and standard tasks and techniques for routine grounds maintenance and trails maintenance; landscaping; basic building maintenance and custodial work processes; safety procedures; cleaning agents, procedures, and equipment; pesticides and fertilizers and their applications; and Commission organization, policies and procedures.*Knowledge is typically acquired or fully developed by on-the-job training in this job class.Skill and ability to operate hand and power tools, chainsaws, and power saws, woodchippers, push and riding mowers, small tractors with attachments, small trucks or vans with small trailers; operate various computerized software programs; provide courteous service; and perform First Aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED).Skill in problem solving to select, organize and logically process relevant information (verbal, numerical or abstract) to solve a problem.Skill in communication to understand verbal and written information (including facts, descriptions and ideas) and to express such information so that others will understand. Examples include reading and understanding labels; and reading and writing routine reports and correspondence.Interpersonal skills to interact effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of a team.Working Conditions:Primarily works outside but may work inside on occasion or as assigned.May work weekends, evenings and holidays.Occasionally exposed to inclement weather, dirt, waste, odors, caustic chemicals, pesticides, wildlife, and potentially harmful insects (e.g., bees, hornets, wasps) and plants (e.g., poison ivy).Ability to occasionally lift up to 100 pounds and regularly up to 50 pounds.Preferred Qualifications:Proven ability to read and understand materials and instructions and write routine records and reports.Ability to withstand exposure to various elements and weather conditions, waste, caustic chemicals, pesticides, wildlife, and potentially harmful insects.The ability to constantly kneel, bend, twist, lift, and carry heavy objects of up to 100 pounds.The ability to work nights, weekends, days, and/or any combination thereof.An essential employee on-call 24 hours for any emergencies.**All applicants to this job posting will be considered for this and future Senior Parks/Facilities Maintenance Worker job openings at various locations within the Southern Parks Division for 6 months or until all qualified candidates have been exhausted from this job posting, whichever comes first. At that time, a new job posting may be available for application to future openings.Pass Commission medical examination.18 years of age.Two (2) years of experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance or park maintenance, semi-skilled trade work (HVACR, plumbing, painting, masonry, electrical, carpentry).An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total two (2) years.Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations.
