May supervise support staff, part-time or temporary employees as assigned. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages complex planning studies, development applications and reviews consultant proposals
- Reviews and processes complex comprehensive plan amendments, re-zonings, annexations, site plans, plats
- Provides professional planning assistance to member communities on varied land use projects
- Works in regional program areas relating to natural/water resources planning, community development, hazard mitigation, coastal zone management and others
- Prepares and presents reports and other findings to staff, planning and zoning boards and commissions, and elected officials and serves as liaison
PERIPHERAL DUTIESServes as a member of various staff committees as assigned.Attends professional development workshops and conferences to keep abreast of trends and developments in the field of municipal planning.QualificationsDESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience: (A) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in land-use planning, urban planning, landscape architecture, public administration or a closely related field, and (B) Four (4) years experience in municipal planning; or (C) Any equivalent combination of education and experience, additional education substituting on a year for year basis for the required experience.Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:(A) Thorough knowledge of zoning laws and comprehensive plans including their formation, process of adoption, and enforcement; Extensive knowledge of planning programs and processes; Working knowledge of Personal Computers and GIS applications; (B) Skilled in the area of drafting and designing; Skilled in the operation of the listed tools and equipment. (C) Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with architects, contractors, developers, owners, supervisors, employees, and the general public; Ability to establish effective working relationships.TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USEDPersonal computer, including word processing; Engineer's scale.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
