Description:

The Operation & Maintenance Department within the Emory National Primate Research Center at Emory University is currently seeking a Senior Plumber/Pipefitter to join our team. The Operation & Maintenance team maintains the safe operation and maintenance of building facilities which include electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems. We are responsible for operating and maintaining specific equipment, preventive maintenance activities, responding to customer needs, and repairing equipment. We rapidly and appropriately respond to emergency events such as leaks, floods, power outages, or any other situation which could adversely affect humans, animals, and/or research at the Center. This can include responding quickly and appropriately to remote notification alarms including animal housing temperature, pressure, and humidity alarms, laboratory freezer alarms, and other space condition and equipment status alarms.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides licensed plumbing services in accordance with state and local plumbing codes.
  • Performs plumbing systems repair, maintenance and construction on industrial, commercial, and medical research facilities.
  • Installs and repairs plumbing systems including pumps, fixtures, potable water systems, meters, industrial and sanitary waste systems, and laboratory utilities, in adherence with state and municipal plumbing codes.
  • Performs routine testing on backflow preventers, water, and industrial waste systems, laboratory utilities, meters, pumps and fixtures to ensure continuity of service.
  • Troubleshoots plumbing systems and components to identify faulty parts which need replacement or repair.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints and schematic drawings for material take-off and to complete work assignments.
  • Compiles material lists for stock requisitions and deliveries.
  • Takes the necessary precautions, in keeping with OSHA standards and other applicable regulations, when working with hazardous chemicals, materials, and power equipment.
  • Uses personal protective equipment as required.
  • May temporarily perform the duties of a supervisor in his/her absence.
  • Provides guidance and serves as a resource to other shop members.
  • Will occasionally supervise other plumbers in the completion of projects.
  • Operates hand and power tools.
  • Ensures the safeguarding of all assigned tools and equipment.
  • May drive utility vehicles to and from work sites; is responsible for their safety, maintenance and cleanliness.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Four years of plumbing work experience.
  • A current Georgia Journeyman Plumber's license.
  • A valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.

PREFERRED/DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledgeable of local and state plumbing codes.
  • Capable of performing complex plumbing system repairs and replacements for industrial, commercial and medical facilities.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience with healthcare, research, laboratory and/or other critical/biomedical facilities.
  • Have experience or be willing to be trained to enter high-containment facilities.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work schedule Monday-Friday, 6am-2:30pm.
  • Involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as well as the ability to bend, kneel, and/or squat, move/push heavy racks a short distance.
  • This involves getting the proper vaccinations, wearing personal protection equipment (PPE), and attending regularly scheduled training sessions.
  • High containment areas include biosafety level 3 (BSL3) facilities, animal holding rooms, confined space, and others.

COMPENSATION:

  • This is a non-exempt position paid hourly.
  • Hourly Rate: Minimum $23.125, Mid-Point $30.962, Maximum $38.99.
  • Annualized Salary: Minimum $48,100, Mid-Point $64,400, Maximum $81,100.
