Purpose of Job:The Senior Power Supply Analyst will work out of ODEC's Glen Allen, VA office. This impactful position coordinates and develops components of engineering economic analyses as it relates to ODEC's strategic plan. Focused under Power Supply, the analysis includes evaluation of existing resources and selection of future resource options. This individual will compile and disseminate material necessary to develop and evaluate future power supply plans; manage, create and use fuel, energy, capacity and allowance price databases to develop and document planning assumptions and spreadsheets; and operate, analyze and report results of complex production cost simulation models to support project evaluations, budget and financial forecast development.Essential responsibilities include:
- Leading long-term corporate planning studies and financial forecasts associated with power supply.
- Leading and performing economic and statistical analyses to assist in power plant development, origination and evaluation of structured power supply contracts, generating plant acquisitions and other generation options.
- Assisting in the validation of mid-term/long-term planning and power supply studies performed by ACES consultants.
- Working with consultants and ODEC staff to ensure integrity of power supply informational databases, fuel, energy and capacity.
- Leading and performing economic evaluations of the impact of regulatory and market changes to ODEC's portfolio.
- Preparing Power Supply's portion of the annual budget and assisting with development of Purchase Power Demand Cost portion.
- Maintaining verification process of annual changes and helping prepare responses to on-going variance analysis queries of actual versus budget.
Work Experience:
- Minimum 6 years power industry experience
- Minimum 3 years maintaining power supply databases with practical application of power supply quantitative analysis and forecasting techniques/concepts.
Critical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must understand power supply and natural gas portfolio cost and risk.
- Must have a working knowledge of power and fuel markets.
- Must have a minimum of intermediate level Microsoft Excel proficiency or similar analytical tools.
- Must have proficiency working with production cost and/or capacity expansion models.
- Must have effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to report large quantities of data.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience producing or reviewing an integrated resource plan or similar strategic document.
- Knowledge of environmental and other regulatory policies impacting the energy industry
Education: Bachelor's degree in Math, Computer Science, Physics, Business, Economics, Engineering or related technical/analytical degree, or equivalent professional work experienceTravel details: Occasional travel required for meetings and conferences via automobile and/or commercial airline.Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
- Ability to enter data using hand-eye coordination and look at a computer monitor for long periods of time.
- Interact effectively with others through oral communication in person, over the phone and via video chat and in writing via email, text and Microsoft Teams chat.
- Work full days (8 hours) in an office environment and work weekends during peak periods.
