A Day in the Life As a member of our Cardiac Ablation Solutions Engineering team in Medtronic, plc, we provide Operations technical leadership to the Product Development Core Teams. At our Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Department, we focus on designing and developing cutting edge technologies for the manufacture of medical devices. Our Engineers are directly involved in the development of innovative products and processes for use in medical procedures. Come for a job, stay for a career! Provide technical leadership to the implementation of design, process, and supply chain updates to a novel ablation catheter product to enable high volume production with a focus on processing. Collaborate with the design and sourcing teams to modify the design of a complex system for manufacturability and secure a sustainable supply base.

•As a Sr. Principal Engineer you will be an active technical leader in key new product development areas including: Design, Technology development & advancement, Automation, Vendor management & Project management.

•Provide leadership in manufacturing technology innovation strategy across the department

•Required to progress a project from concept phase into commercialization phase and play a lead role on the product /process /engineering /leadership fronts

•Required to assess risk and perform root cause assessments to resolve technical challenges with existing processes and technologies.

•You will use Design, Reliability & Manufacturability methodology (DRM), 3-D drawing/printing to develop best in class technologies for the manufacture of our new medical device product ranges.

•You will collaborate with cross functional teams to define, execute and deliver on New Product Development requirements.

•You will lead teams driving technology process innovation with emphasis on improving quality, reducing variation and developing state of the art automated and semi-automated systems.

•You will lead and support process development, characterization and validation activities to support new product introduction.

•You will be familiar with DRM Metrics such as WFX, PCX and be familiar with leading or participating in DFMA workshops

•Partake in cross site Technical Forums and build a network within the technical community

•Define and implement strategic goals in the technical community in line with the business unit strategy

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

•Bachelor of Science Degree or higher in, Materials Science, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or related discipline and desirably with 8+ years' experience in a similar role.

•You are proven SME in equipment development, process development, process characterization and have a strong proven track record in innovation and project/program management.

•Must have excellent project management skills and a history of co-ordinating workload, including multiple complex process characterizations & equipment across an Advanced Manufacturing team at various levels

•You have experience using DRM practices including DFMA, Capability and Control

Experience in the design, development, and manufacturing of catheter or lead products.

Metal joining experience: resistance welding and/or laser welding or similar metal joining technologies.

Polymer joining experience: hot die, laser, and/or RF/induction or similar polymer joining technologies.

Adhesives and epoxy experience.

Nice to Have

•This role is primarily technical in nature; thus we seek someone who is passionate about Engineering concepts and principles – someone who gets a thrill from how and why things work.

•You are a seasoned professional in engineering development with extensive engineering knowledge and skills in some or all of the following: Concept development and selection, technology evaluation, driving innovative solutions to complex problems, process design and development, design for six sigma principles, CAD (Solidworks preferred), statistical techniques, process validation and control, catheter shaft fabrication (braiding, coiling, lamination)

•Good communicator and fluent in English, with a high level of enthusiasm and motivation. Travel up to 25%

Requires a Baccalaureate degree (or for degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)( 4)(iii)(A) and minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$144,800.00 - $217,200.00 This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
