Careers that Change LivesProvide legal advice and counsel to business units/management for the Aortic business within the Structural Heart & Aortic Operating Unit.This role interacts commonly with senior business and legal leadership and all medical device business functions on topics that may include any of the following: marketing and sales activities, Antikickback Statute, FDA law including quality and clinical, healthcare compliance efforts, business development, general business advising, general contract drafting and negotiations, training and dispute resolution.Exact scope of duties will vary depending on candidate qualifications.This position can work in one of our US Medtronic office locations or work remote.A Day in the LifeResponsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
  • Support Aortic business in meeting its revenue and other business/functional objectives while solving legal problems and managing associated risks. This is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of essential job functions, but rather a general overview of the principal responsibilities.
  • Advise and counsel business clients and management on legal issues.
  • Identify, anticipate and help mitigate key legal risks within areas of responsibility.
  • Negotiate and prepare contracts and agreements.
  • Identify and manage legal resources internal and outside as required to provide high-quality legal services at a reasonable cost.
  • Provide client training on legal issues, policies and processes.
  • Work closely with partners in various Legal Centers of Excellence to deliver excellent and timely guidance and other legal services for the business.
  • Actively participate in strategic discussions with the Aortic Senior Leadership Team.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
  • Juris Doctor from nationally recognized law school
  • Licensed to practice Law in at least one state or the District of Columbia
  • 8+ years of legal experience in a law firm or in-house position, to include experience with commercial contracts and/or FDA law
Nice to Have
  • Medical device industry experience strongly preferred, or equivalent experience working in a highly regulated environment
  • FDA regulatory and quality system and Anti-kickback Statute experience strongly preferred
  • 6+ years of experience working with commercial contracts and/or FDA law
  • Complex contracts experience
  • Experience working directly with business clients
  • Exceptional advocacy, verbal, writing and negotiating skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Superior common sense and judgment
  • Integrity and strong ethical center
  • Analytical risk identification, evaluation, and management skills
  • Capable of inspiring trust and confidence of client groups
  • Flexibility, adaptability, pragmatism, responsiveness and collegiality
  • Managerial experience
  • Ability to work constructively with clients of all backgrounds and experience
  • Ability to work collegially with lawyers, paralegals, and staff
  • Ability to take initiative in dealing with issues and judgment to know when to solicit assistance
  • Exceptional advocacy in negotiating skills
  • Experience working with HIPAA
  • Direct client contact
  • In-House Corporate Attorney experience
  • Experience supporting Sales and Marketing function
  • Other healthcare law experience
  • Litigation experience
