This role is with Starship, a division of Optum Financial focused on making benefits better through human-centered design and product innovation. We're looking for a Consumer Facing Product Designer to plan, define and design an impactful product experience to drive growth and build trust with our customers. You'll develop new visual components and interaction patterns at a systems level and build prototypes that communicate your brand and product vision. You'll support the growth of a best-in-class design team and work closely with engineers to bring your designs to life.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Craft, test, and iterate on designs until the most optimal, intuitive, and elegant solution is identified
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers and designers to ensure we design and ship high quality solutions
  • Work on the design of our consumer app, enterprise dashboard, and internal tools
  • Create innovative and creative design solutions that address user and business needs for specific areas of our products
  • Collaborate with the research team to drive empathy and learn from users to inform features enhancements

You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of professional experience in product design, with a proven track record of high-impact design work
  • 2+ cases showing high visual acuity shown in consumer focused product case-studies
    • Experience designing and documenting your designs for communication and implementation purposes
    • Experience working through complex workflows using whiteboards, flow charts, wireframes, or other visual diagrams
    • Experience with grid systems, composition, typography, and color
  • 1+ years of experience working on large, business critical products
  • 1+ years of experience in working within or for large organizations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in banking or a financial institution
  • Understanding of healthcare and insurance
  • Proficiency with prototyping tools such as Figma or Framer

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
