Job Description:

Since 2008, Great American's Environmental Division has offered an exclusive focus on environmental insurance solutions to a wide variety of commercial customers. The Division offers a complete portfolio of environmental insurance products, including contractor's and fixed premises pollution liability insurance products.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Has responsibility for risk selection/rejection, pricing, retention, growth, and profitability per divisional objectives for renewal and new business opportunities.
  • Uses independent judgment and initiative to support business goals.
  • Maintains a high level of customer service.
  • Analyzes coverage and limit requests and decides what terms to offer.
  • Prices business in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Assesses risk quality and compliance within company guidelines and initiates appropriate loss prevention actions.
  • Reviews submission documents including Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and other environmental reports, consults online resources and liaises with in-house risk control and other colleagues to support underwriting decisions.
  • Works with legal department to manuscript policy language.
  • Negotiates with brokers on pricing and coverage.
  • Develops and maintains effective business relationships with internal and external customers/coworkers in order to attract and retain profitable business.
  • Visits agents, brokers, and producers nationwide in order to retain existing accounts, build and maintain business relationships, and develop new relationships in support of divisional objectives.
  • Interprets, explains, and markets products and services.
  • Develops creative solutions for new opportunities.
  • Attends and participates in Division events, broker appreciation events, industry conferences.
  • Applies underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.
  • Actively participates in daily collaboration meetings, shares knowledge and experience with others and provides guidance and assistance to lower level associates.
  • May have responsibility for performance and coaching of staff and may have a participatory role in decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management for direct reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Field of Study: Environmental, Business or other related discipline.
  • Experience: Generally, 5-7 years of related environmental underwriting experience.
