Job Location: Devens, MA (Project locations across the Commonwealth) Hybrid Schedule: Minimum 3 days per week in the office, Depending on project schedule Reports To: Director of Engineering Job Summary: We are looking for a seasoned Senior Project Engineer to oversee and manage construction, demolition, and infrastructure projects from inception to completion. This role encompasses all facets of project management, including planning, budget development, design, and permitting. The Senior Project Engineer will coordinate with various stakeholders, ensure compliance with public procurement procedures, and deliver projects on time and within budget. The Engineering Department supports the Devens Operations Team providing municipal services to the former Fort Devens redevelopment project, the Real Estate Development and Planning Departments assisting with projects across the Commonwealth, numerous municipalities and other state agencies. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, design, and execution of civil engineering projects, ensuring alignment with technical specifications and regulatory guidelines.
- Collaborate closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and other key stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
- Monitor project milestones, proactively identify potential risks, and implement effective solutions to sustain project momentum.
- Develop and assess project budgets, timelines, and comprehensive reports.
- Ensure that all projects adhere to safety regulations and quality standards.
- Conduct inspections and provide technical guidance to engineering teams on-site.
- Manage all project documentation, including contracts, permits, and change orders.
- Keep senior management and clients informed with clear and timely updates on project progress.
Competencies:
- Understanding of workplace concepts and issues related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-oppression.
- A degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, alongside a Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent practical experience.
- At least five years of experience in engineering project management, covering fieldwork, office responsibilities, and on-site experience, especially in utility and roadway/infrastructure construction projects.
- Extensive knowledge of general construction and demolition practices.
- Proficient in navigating state, local, and federal permitting processes.
- Solid understanding of engineering methods, materials, and regulations.
- Dedicated to sustainable engineering practices.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Advanced proficiency in project management software and tools.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities, capable of performing effectively under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
Working Conditions:
- Frequent travel to various project sites is necessary, along with the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- This position requires access to undeveloped sites, abandoned facilities and active construction sites and may require climbing ladders and stairs.
