Overview:
A Sr. Project Manager is responsible for driving the overall success of moderately complex or larger projects, leading the PowerPlan and client project teams, while keeping the project on schedule, on budget and on time using the PowerMe tools and methodology. Challenges include scope creep, budget management in the face of technical issues, client expectations, risk management and issue resolution, proactive project budget management, the change order process and forecasting, and learning how to negotiate with clients with an understanding of the clients political environment.
Responsibilities:
- Knowledge and successful application of PowerMe tools and delivery methodology, PowerPlan policies and project related constraints.
- Successful execution of on time, on schedule, within scope and budget of moderately complex or larger sized projects.
- Creation of a moderately complex or larger sized project work schedule / plans and has managed project execution from the plan, start to finish.
- Maintains and logs written issues and risks in the risk/issue log that clearly describe the issue or risk and its impact.
- Creates weekly written status reports using PowerMe template that are both clearly written and accurate for internal and client readers.
- Initiates and manages critical, difficult or otherwise unwelcome conversations with the client.
- Creates, persuades customer acceptance of and marshals internally, moderately complex and/or larger sized change orders for scope expansion and budget management and / or next project
- Accurately and proactively forecast and manages multiple concurrent project budgets over the life of the projects
- Maintains moderately complex or larger sized project EACs accurately and synchronizes each to the project PSA records each week. Reports current forecasted financial outlooks from memory in internal meetings when asked.
- Completes weekly PSA record updates, approves time cards and expense reports before deadlines.
- Crafts clear and well written status notes describing the project risks, issues and next steps for PSA records.
- Regularly initiates and manages critical, difficult or otherwise unwelcome conversations with the client related to a project while maintaining the client relationship
- Regularly leads project status calls both internal (within team and cross-functionally) and client facing, including detailed status reporting, and issue resolution discussion to mutual agreement. Follows up with clearly written agreements and next steps.
- Achieved the PMI Project Management Professional certification exam
- Successfully manages multiple complex projects at once to completion
- Regularly negotiates moderately complex issues to resolution and customer acceptance of the proposed solution while maintaining the project scope and budget with customer.
- Takes responsibility for and accepts accountability for project financials and overall health of the project and team
- Escalates critical project issues to PowerPlan Manager and PowerPlan Senior Leadership team for support and assistance. Clearly and succinctly explains issues, the customers position, and the impact on project financials, schedule or scope from memory in internal calls when asked.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Masters degree preferred.
- 5-8 years of enterprise project management experience in technical / software engagements.
- Project Management Professional Certification.
- Agile Project Management experience preferred.
- Excellent, effective communication skills, including:
- verbal, written, listening and presentation skills.
- ability to engage and successfully interact with the client and project team at all levels.
- Consulting and client/project team relationship-building skills.
- Strong technical background.
- Ability to establish oneself as a trusted advisor to client, project team and PowerPlan colleagues.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
