Job Description:
Shepard Steel Co, Inc. is looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager for our Structural Steel division. This candidate should have 10+ years of experience in the steel fabrication and/or erection industry, and a well-regarded reputation in the business.Under the direct supervision ofthe Vice President, the Senior Project Manager will be responsible for managing the structural steel scope of work from contract award to closeout. Our project managers serve as the liaisons between our client, team members, vendors, and subcontractors. The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:
  • Anticipating/understanding the full scope of work and comparing project documents to the estimate to ensure compliance with scope of work and budget constraints.
  • Project scheduling; coordinating detailing, fabrication, and delivery schedules.
  • Attending on-site or virtual project meetings, as required.
  • Attending weekly production meetings to discuss project progress and issues.
  • Managing the submittal process; including advance bill of materials, RFIs, shop drawings, samples, technical data, etc.
  • Engaging the project detailer with priorities and delivery requirements in mind and ensure detailer's shop drawings meet project specifications, project estimate, and company requirements.
  • Coordinating with construction manager & other trades.
  • Obtaining field measurements (when required) and ensuring their accuracy before fabrication is scheduled.
  • Coordinating with the subcontracted erector for the installation of finished/fabricated product and ensuring the erector's on-site work meets expectations.
  • Managing all subcontractors; including the review and processing of invoices.
  • Ensuring actual costs remain within budget throughout the life of the project.
  • Accurately tracking and submitting additional costs resulting from project changes; promptly issuing a change order request to the construction manager and tracking the status of each request.
  • Issuing required close-out documents to the construction manager upon completion of the project.
Prerequisites:
  • Experience in the structural steel industry (Bachelor's degree in Construction Management preferred)
  • Proficient in reading Architectural and Structural Construction drawings.
  • Strong computer skills; competent in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Bluebeam.
  • Possess and apply a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures to the completion of difficult assignments.
  • Ability to develop and improve upon product knowledge.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and able to multi-task.
  • Strong organizational & communication skills.
  • TeklaEPM (Fabsuite) experience preferred.
