Job Description:

Responsibilities

• Work with the Accounting/Finance team and the front office to ensure the proper accounting and reporting related to real estate property that is owned directly and indirectly by the company.

• Manage communication and relationships with:

  • Real Estate investment professionals such as the Director of Commercial Asset Management and Development and the Head of Multifamily Asset Management.
  • External Real Estate professionals, such as third-party asset managers and external asset managers (e.g., to obtain specific information related to transactions, monthly general ledger entries, etc.).
  • Finance and Accounting professionals, collaborating daily with colleagues on transactions and issues.
  • External auditors, assisting with coordination of interim and year-end audit.

• Prepare and manage monthly journal entries including bank reconciliation records.

• Support the production of property company reporting packages and required financial information and analytics.

• Assist with treasury and funding operations and oversee/coordinate re-balancing of subsidiary funding of investments as needed.

• Support property accounting activities for various IT projects, such as establishment of module design to accurately track property CAPEX/OPEX and various building improvements; bridge to enhance general ledger system, amongst others.

• Assist in year-end audits of real property assets, annual tax, and city required filings.

• Prepare and compile workpapers and financial data by performing detailed review of general ledger and other property owner reports.

• Review lease abstracts and ensure payments are in accordance with leases.

• Be knowledgeable and contribute to internal control systems surrounding real estate properties.

• Support on special projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • CPA license highly preferred
  • 3 to 6+ years Property or Real Estate Accounting experience within a Real Estate Investment or Management firm, or Big 4 Audit for Real Estate clients
  • Technical knowledge regarding real estate property accounting, understanding of investments, GAAP, IFRS.
  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Accounting

The Senior Property Accountant / Accounting Manager role requires 4 days per week in the midtown Manhattan office, so please only apply if you are able to travel to this location, have relevant experience for the role and are eligible to work in the United States.
