HarperCollins Childrens Books, one of the leading publishers of childrens and teen books, is currently seeking a Senior Publicist to join its publicity team. This candidate will work on a wide variety of bestselling titles across all categories including picture books, middle grade, YA, brands, and backlist, along with franchise/Estate publishing programs and media tie-ins. The ideal candidate is creative, enthusiastic, and has a positive, can-do attitude.
- Work independently on publicity campaigns for authors and illustrators of picture books, middle grade and young adult novels, as well as franchise/brand programs and media tie-ins.
- Pitch and secure interviews, features, and review coverage with national and local media, including broadcast, print, podcasts, and online blogs and sites.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with media outlets including TV/radio producers, book reviewers, as well as booksellers/event coordinators.
- Plan and execute author appearances including multi-city book tours, virtual appearances, local appearances, school visits, and special events.
- Coordinate HCCB author appearances at ABA Institutes and regional trade shows with sales team.
- Arrange all travel for assigned authors and create tour schedules.
- Write compelling press releases, pitches, and other promotional materials relating to a books campaign.
- Brief authors and editors on how to communicate key messages in media interviews/appearances
- Accompany authors to media bookings, author events, and festivals/conventions as needed.
- Build and maintain strong and collaborative relationships with authors, editors, literary agents, and the marketing, sales, and digital teams.
- Oversee budgets for assigned titles.
- Regularly present at sales and marketing meetings
- Minimum 3-4 years of publicity experience required with an emphasis placed on booking national media in both traditional and digital outlets and author events
- Experience in childrens publishing or media is preferred
- Proven ability to generate creative angles, pitches, and secure off the book page coverage
- Strong presentation skills and the ability to represent campaigns to authors, agents and internally in meetings
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under deadlines
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational, attention to detail, and time-management skills
- A college degree or equivalent experience

The salary for this position is $55,500-$70,000. We recognize that attracting the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company. The quoted salary range represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect, and we tailor our offers within the range based on the selected candidate's experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process.
