The Opportunity That Awaits You:

The Mechanical Engineer designs and develops Procept BioRobotics products and components in compliance with applicable quality system procedures and regulations. This position will be responsible for supporting the existing and next generation robotic system design optimized for clinical effectiveness, reliability, and low-cost manufacturing. We need someone who is driven, motivated, and determined to ideate, conceptualize, create, test, iterate, and finalize cutting-edge solutions which meet the needs of customers and patients around the world.

What Your Day-To-Day Will Involve:

  • Participate in the design of robotic platform and accessories for applications focused on handpiece design, console design, instrument manipulators, and instrument interfaces.
  • Contribute to the design and development of robust mechanical and robotic assemblies for a medical device that will be scaled to large volumes.
  • Provide design, integration, and test solutions in a fast-paced environment with a quick development cycle.
  • Interface with vendors for component sourcing and fabrication.
  • Interface with customers for product feedback and input.
  • Develop manufacturing fixtures and instrumentation.
  • Develop assembly and test procedures.
  • Work closely with cross-functional departments to develop robust, scalable assembly processes that are cost-efficient and ready for high-volume production.
  • Direct suppliers as needed during component, assembly, and fixture development.
  • Direct technicians and interns as required.
  • Independently manage projects and outside consultants.

The Qualifications We Need You to Possess:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering, Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in the Medical Device industry.
  • Proficiency using CAD to design and document mechanisms: SolidWorks.

The Qualifications We Would Like You to Possess:

  • Experience with early phase development and collecting user inputs from Surgeons/Users.
  • Product-minded individual with the ability to combine complex optical and electro-mechanical systems into a product that meets or exceeds patient and physician needs.
  • Knowledge of motion control, position sensing, feedback algorithms, motors, encoders, and linear actuators.
  • Knowledge of component manufacturing processes (including machining, sheet metal, rapid prototyping, injection molding, casting, MiM, weldments, etc.).
  • Familiar with mechanical design and analysis skills, including statics, dynamics, kinematics, strength of materials, and stress analysis.
  • Proven understanding of component selection criteria, and design for reliability and volume manufacturability.
  • Experience with designing products in an FDA or other regulated industry; comfortable with concepts of design input, design output, traceability, and risk analysis.
  • Familiarity with IEC-60601-1 requirements is a plus.
  • Comfortable with all phases of the product development lifecycle including design, implementation, debug, verification, qualification, and transfer to Manufacturing.
  • Experience with mechanism design, robotics, and automation; medical robotics is a strong plus.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written, oral) across all levels and organizations.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as multiplication, exponents, logarithms, and unit of measure conversions.
  • Will require the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited information and standardization exist.
  • Ability to interpret and effectively produce from a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

For US-Based Candidates Only:

Work Authorization Status: Citizen / Permanent Resident.

For this role, the anticipated base pay range is $120,000-151,000 per year, plus eligibility for an annual bonus and equity/RSUs.

The pay range(s) for this role is listed below and represents base salary range for non-commissionable roles or on-target earnings for commissionable roles. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, relevant certifications and training, and specific work location.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

We'll provide you training for, and ask you to maintain trained status for, and comply with, all relevant aspects of the PROCEPT BioRobotics Quality Management System to ensure product and support regulatory compliance. We would also ask you to understand and adhere to the PROCEPT BioRobotics Quality & EHS policies.
