The Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor (SNP) has an exciting opportunity and is currently candidates to work as Senior Rackets Investigators in our Detective Investigations Unit. In this position, the Senior Rackets Investigator will supervise the work of Rackets Investigators in the securing and verifying of facts for use in criminal proceedings and for possible legislative action. Applicants must have extensive knowledge and investigative experience in one or more of the following areas: organized crime, narcotics trafficking, money laundering, gang investigations, and violent crimes.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist investigators and Assistant District Attorneys in preparation of material for trial. Investigators must conduct surveillance, monitor court authorized wire taps, examine business records, collect evidence, and participate in sensitive undercover operations.
- Have knowledge and experience with court procedures and criminal trials, the ability to assist in preparation of cases for court and to testify effectively in court.
- Conducts especially difficult and highly confidential investigations and library research projects.
- Prepares reports and maintains necessary records or activities.
- Performs related work and all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior law enforcement or criminal justice experience related to organized crimes, narcotics trafficking, and financial crimes.
- Extensive knowledge of the application of laws relating to criminal violations required.
- Must have a valid NYS driver's license and as per NY Public Officers Law 2, §3-B, U.S. citizenship required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal skills required.
- All candidates must pass a medical exam, drug test, physical and psychological fitness exams and an intensive background check.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current NYS Police Officer certification preferred.
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Graduation from high school or its equivalent and three years of full-time, paid experience in police enforcement or investigative work, one year of which must have been in rackets or police investigative work.
- Education and/or experience which is equivalent to the above. However, all candidates are required to have full-time, paid experience in rackets or police investigative work.
ADDITIONAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess critical thinking skills and strong research ability
- Must have a valid NYS driver's license
- Must pass a medical exam, drug test, psychological screening and an intensive background check
- As per NY Public Officers Law 2, §3-B, U.S. citizenship required
- Ability to work flexible hours
- Ability to perform overtime as directed by a Supervisor or Chief Level Investigator
