The Senior Research Associate in the Snyder lab , both under general supervision and independently, provides research support requiring the application of standard research practices and techniques. Organizes and carries out specific details of experiments, performs data analysis, interprets results, and generates written reports, as applicable, to assist with the completion of various research projects. The ideal candidate has either demonstrated hands-on liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) experience or is eager to learn LC-MS, coupled with a willingness to teach other laboratory skills including, but not limited to, bioinformatics/chemoinformatics, molecular biology, and microbiology. Must be comfortable working with human and animal derived specimens. Flexibility in hours and days of work is negotiable. Responsibilities include:
- Plans and carries out experiment procedures (including those utilizing cells as well as human derived samples)
- Records results of research tests and experiments, analyzes data, and interprets information
- Prepares detailed charts and assists with the preparation and/or editing of written documents, including reports of procedures, research manuals for publication, regulatory paperwork, and grants
- Determines various characteristics of materials and subjects used in laboratory experiments, prepares reagents and experiment samples, and may work with chemicals and animals
- Makes corrective modifications in methodology and develops various procedures
- Establishes and maintains literary files
- Operates and maintains sophisticated laboratory equipment, including liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry instruments
- May review survey literature and summarize pertinent data
- May maintain, assemble, adjust, and make minor repairs to complex laboratory equipment
- May assist with the supervision of student workers, provide instruction on the use of equipment and research techniques, and aid in the performance of assigned laboratory exercises
- Performs other duties as assigned
Required Education & Experience:Bachelor's Degree and at least four years of related research experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Required Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated proficiency in experimental procedures and techniques as required for the laboratory
- Proficiency using sophisticated laboratory equipment
- Familiarity with preparing research results for publishing
- Ability to work independently and as part of a research team
- Ability to multitask and effectively manage time
- Effective oral and written communication skills
