Job Type Full-time Description Venesco, LLC., is seeking a Senior Research Scientist to provide services at United States Army Institute of Surgical Research in San Antonio, TX. Senior Research Scientist will conduct research as part of the Organ Support & Automation Technologies Division (CRT3). The mission of CRT3 is to deliver material and knowledge products that enhance Soldier survival at point of injury and during prolonged care outside of hospitals. Learn more about USAISR CRT3 at this link . US Citizenship and [CLEARANCE] is required for this position. The successful candidate will work directly with the Client and support team members to:

  • Provide support at the level of a Co-Investigator and conduct animal surgical procedures/experiments in the field of heparin-free Extracorporeal Life Support research.
  • Develop, edit, and submit institutional laboratory, animal protocols to support objectives. This includes managing scientific references and performing literature searches and retrospective data reviews to remain current in the fields: ECLS, microbiology, molecular biology, burns, trauma, and combat casualty care.
  • Collect, organize, and store data in appropriate electronic databases or spreadsheet.
  • Analyze/Interpret results of data collected during protocols.
  • Perform statistical analysis on collected data utilizing existing statistical analysis programs such as SigmaPlot, GraphPad, etc.
  • Prepare/deliver presentations and provide updates on ongoing projects at programmatic meetings.
  • Perform coagulant-free ECLS laboratory analysis of blood-derived samples.
  • Perform coagulation and platelet activation marker analyses.
  • Perform enhanced visualization techniques to include scanning electron/fluorescent/confocal microscopy.
  • Participate in the development of laboratory SOPs.
  • Interpret results/prepare manuscripts, reports and presentations for publication to include figures, tables, images and methodological text.
  • Adher to local safety and regulatory policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Participate/present findings at lectures, seminars, and annual conferences. This may include traveling to scientific meetings to present results.
Requirements
  • Shall hold a doctorate in a biomedical science.
  • Shall have completed a post-doctoral fellowship or two plus years working as a doctorate level scientist in a laboratory setting.
  • Proficient in using bright field, fluorescent and confocal microscopes, multiplex plate readers, real time polymerase chain reaction equipment, western blot gel analysis equipment and bacterial enumeration equipment such as spiral platers and colony counters.
  • Experience working with porcine or other large animal preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Exceptionally self-motivated, directed, and detail oriented.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
