LATA POSITION: Senior Scientist, Site Environmental Monitoring & HydrologyDepartment: Environmental Monitoring & Hydrology (Carlsbad, NM)LATA is currently searching for a Senior Scientist for the Site Environmental Monitoring & Hydrology department for the project in Carlsbad, New Mexico. This is a government contract to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) supporting the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP). The WIPP Environmental Monitoring & Hydrology department of LATA provides environmental, regulatory, technical, and sampling expertise on all facets of the Environmental Monitoring Program at the WIPP facility. As leaders in project excellence, LATA has over four decades of proven success in global and domestic markets as a small business specializing in federal government contracting. The chemist will analyze laboratory data in support of numerous monitoring programs at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Chemistry data include radionuclides, metals, volatile and semi volatile organics, and general chemistry indicator parameters. Additionally, this position will include quality assurance, project support and project management functions. Support will crosscut different organizations requiring technical chemistry consultation.

Responsibilities:

Job requires working at the WIPP site, a remote location approximately 40 miles (travel distance) east of Carlsbad, NM. Radiological Data Verification and Validation Environmental Data Verification and Validation Prepare groundwater analysis text for the Annual Culebra Groundwater Report Review Low-Volume Airborne Particulate data packages from WIPP Labs Prepare sections/chapters/appendices for the Annual Site Environmental Report Qualified Subcontract Technical Representative for WIPP site environmental analysis samples Qualified Records Coordinator Contact for WIPPs radiological laboratory for environmental samples As necessary prepare request for proposal for WIPP sample analyses Cognizant Individual for several procedures including Data Verification and Validation of RCRA Constituents; Radiological Data Verification and Validation; and, Integrated Sample Control Plan Coordinate and work closely with other departments and organizations regarding the chemical analysis and results of measured constituents. Provide support in other Environmental Monitoring & Hydrology programs, as needed.

Qualifications:

Organic, Inorganic, or Radionuclide Chemist with 5 years of experience is preferred. Bachelor of Science degree in specified chemistry or equivalent knowledge through another specialty, Master of Science degree a plus. Proficiency with Microsoft Office software. Attention to detail and initiative is required. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Must be highly motivated. Must be able to work independently and as a team member

Pay Range:USD $95,004.00 - USD $170,940.00 /Yr.
