At SES AI, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. The base pay range for this role is between $120,000 and $160,000. SES AI considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and skills.

Position Scope
SES has an immediate opening for a Senior Scientist, Synthetic Chemist. The right person will be passionate about mobile energy storage and have the knowledge and skills to extract insights and explore opportunities for improvements from our large cell testing data. The Senior Scientist, Synthetic Chemist will report to the Director and Head of Chemistry and will assist in Synthetic Chemistry experiments.
This position will be based in Woburn, MA, and cannot be done remotely.
Responsibilities
* Design synthetic route of novel organic and inorganic chemical materials for lithium metal battery independently.
* Perform a variety of wet lab experiments and purification.
* Characterize synthetic compounds via various instruments, such as NMR, GC, and LC-MS.
* Optimize synthesis for scale-up and develop SOPs for novel synthetic materials.
* Mentor junior members of the team.
* Perform routine laboratory tasks.
* Adhere to all safety and Good Laboratory Practice regulations as well as company policies.
* Collaborate and communicate with other teams in research and development.
Requirements
* Ph.D. in Chemistry with 0-2 years academic or industry experience.
* Knowledge of chemistry principles and methods with the ability to interpret results and an ability to communicate effectively.
* Good problem-solving skills, the ability to think out of the box, and be able to follow the product development processes.
* Experience with fluorine chemistry and lithium chemistry is strongly preferred.
* Strong communication and quantitative skills.
* A good team player.
