About the Organization

Engineering Services designs, builds, and sustains technology that powers DE&E Technology's worldwide content production and distribution platforms. In doing so, they contribute to a series of cross-functional services and technologies, including Quality Engineering, Data Analytics, Software Development, Broadcast Infrastructure, and Networking & Security. Job Summary:

The Quality Engineering team is responsible for validating all work before it goes to production, this includes software: web, mobile, living room applications, media, services, non-consumer facing products and more.

As a member of our team, you will strive to accomplish the following goals:

  • Contributing to the successful implementation of solutions for complex technical problems with DE&E Technology engineering teams.
  • Owning the development and maintenance of two or more functional areas of core test automation, execution environments, build systems, and tooling used across multiple products.
  • Contributing to the successful design & implementation of one or more project features.
  • Providing strategic input on future initiatives with stakeholders and other engineers.
  • Contributing to and collecting data to inform Key Performance Indicators used for defining project statuses and effectiveness.
  • Check-in valuable, clean code daily that adds new features and capabilities.
  • Becoming a member of our Quality Engineering team, increasing quality through innovation, automated test creation, curiosity, and thoughtful debate.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • Builds solutions that scale and perform. Identifies opportunities to improve the system/product/services with each iteration.
  • Typically owns software programs and multiple components within the team.
  • Developing and supporting test automation frameworks, execution environments, build systems, and reporting tools.
  • Drives development of components through own and more junior engineers' work.
  • Work with product and development teams to implement a full stack quality solution.
  • Maintaining documentation meant for end user consumption as well as project contributor documentation.
  • Support and mentor developers and manual testers through code reviews, knowledge-sharing, and technical leadership.
  • Investigating and resolving any framework, tool, or execution of environmental issues affecting our services.
  • Becoming a core member of our Productivity Engineering team, helping others increase productivity through innovation, and championing the core value of Disney Quality.
  • Identifies problems and opportunities and recommends the development of solutions.
  • Decisions and actions regularly have a moderate influence on the work of team members, other teams, or assigned projects.

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:

  • Bachelor's degree or the foreign equivalent in Computer Science or a closely related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in a software development (SDE) occupation, including automated testing of front end and backend services.
  • Proficient in object-oriented design and expertise with one of the following programming languages: Python, Node/JavaScript, Java.
  • Experience with test automation and unit testing frameworks.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent collaboration skills and ability to use standard software development lifecycle (SDLC) tools such as Jira and Confluence, and version control systems.
  • Experience leading one to two teams in technical solutioning.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Highly motivated, self-starting individual.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience shipping a production Python, Flask or Django application.
  • Experience in mobile application development and testing.
  • Experience with developing applications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS).
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of web accessibility fundamentals.
  • Experience with Kafka, Amazon SQS, and Kinesis.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Spinnaker, and continuous integration/delivery systems.
  • Experience writing Gherkin Syntax to facilitate the development of automated test scenarios.
  • Experience developing advanced mocking mechanisms (e.g., rule-based proxies and dummy-services).
  • Experience with test suite/case/run management tools (e.g., JIRA Xray, etc.).

The hiring range for this position in Santa Monica, CA and Bristol, CT is $138,900.00 to $186,200.00 per year and in New York, NY and Seattle, WA is $145,400.00 to $195,000.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
