Job Description:
Design and develop complex electrical systems for the integration of electronic equipment on military/commercial aircraft and ground stations. The design includes creating system wiring diagrams using the Capital Harness System tool as well as circuit breaker panels, control panels and other items using Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools. Engineer will be responsible for research, systems integration, preparation of engineering drawings, and coordination of design activities with Systems Engineering, Manufacturing, and Production to ensure that designs meet requirements at minimum cost. Engineer will also be responsible for leading and mentoring a team of 5 to 10 design engineers for the duration of an assigned project. Designs can include development of Avionics Systems, RF, LAN, Data Processing, Power Distribution Systems, Electrical Loads analysis, Load shedding scheme to name a few, along with the opportunity to support testing and integration of systems on the aircraft. In addition, engineer is expected to support new program pursuits, engineer bids and trade studies. Electrical design engineers have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of tasks and aircraft systems on various aircraft platforms.
Essential Functions:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure programs are accomplished on schedule and within budget while complying with process/procedures and program requirements
- Provide input into new products, processes, standards, and production plans that have measurable impact on the achievement of overall business results
- Capable of influencing a wide range of audience, and having communication skills to win support without little reporting structure
- Lead a small team of electrical design engineers to implement electronic subsystems by breaking down work packages, providing drawing status, and budget estimates to platform leads.
- Train and mentor junior engineers
Qualifications:
- Requires Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering with six (6) years aircraft design related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering with four (4) years aircraft design related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.)
- Advanced knowledge and skills using ECAD tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills is required
- Good computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required
- Be able to travel to and from the flight line, work in aircraft hangar environment and board/exit aircraft is required.
- Capable of managing and working in an environment that is fast paced, demanding, with a focus on problem resolution and process improvement
- Able to obtain and maintain a DOD Security Clearance which requires US Citizenship
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Eight (8) years of aircraft design related experience in defense aerospace industry
- Outstanding communication (both verbally and written), negotiation, collaboration, time management, presentation, and organizational skills
- Familiarity with FAA (Part 23 or 25) or military aircraft airworthiness design approach, certification process, and requirements
- Results-oriented, empowering leader with direct experience exceling in a matrixed environment
- Experience in electrical design using Siemens NX or Capital
- An active clearance of Secret or higher
