Cognitiv is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. This role is instrumental in maintaining the integrity of our financial records and supporting our reporting and compliance needs. The Senior Staff Accountant will guide the company through its first financial audit, manage GAAP financial preparation, handle complex reconciliations, and support monthly close processes. This role is suited for a skilled accountant with a keen eye for detail and a passion for continuous improvement. This position will be located in our NYC office with a hybrid work schedule of 3 days in the office (Mon/Tue/Wed) and 2 days remote (Thu/Fri). Key Responsibilities : Guide First Financial Audit : Lead the companys preparation for its inaugural financial audit, establishing processes and controls to ensure a smooth and successful audit. Prepare and organize supporting schedules, documents, and work papers for external auditors, acting as the primary liaison during the audit process. GAAP Financial Preparation : Oversee the preparation of GAAP-compliant financial statements, ensuring accuracy and adherence to regulatory standards. Collaborate with the SVP of Finance and leadership to establish and implement GAAP reporting practices across all financial statements. Month-End Close : Prepare and post journal entries for accruals, prepaids, and other adjusting entries. Ensure timely and accurate closing of accounts, including reconciliation of key accounts such as bank, prepaid, and expense accounts. Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and work to resolve issues. Account Reconciliation : Perform reconciliations for key balance sheet and income statement accounts, ensuring accuracy and resolving discrepancies. Assist in maintaining the general ledger by reviewing entries and reconciling accounts. Audit and Compliance : Support annual external audits by preparing work papers, schedules, and other requested documents. Act as a liaison with auditors to address queries and provide accurate data. Financial Reporting : Collaborate with the SVP of Finance to prepare financial statements and management reports. Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal reporting standards. Support budgeting and forecasting processes as needed. Process Improvement : Identify opportunities for improving financial processes and workflows, contributing to enhanced accuracy and efficiency. Assist in implementing and monitoring internal controls to safeguard company assets. Ad Hoc Projects : Participate in special projects and analyses to support Cognitiv's growth and strategic initiatives. Provide financial insights and recommendations to the finance and leadership teams as required. Qualifications : Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CPA candidacy required. 3+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with a background in public accounting required and tech industry experience is a plus. Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and month-end close procedures. Proven experience with accounting software (NetSuite experience preferred). Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables) and experience with data analysis. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Salary: $100,000-$115,000 Base Salary + Equity Actual compensation is based on multiple factors that are unique to each candidate, including and not limited to job-related knowledge, level of relevant experience, education and skills.
