SENIOR STRATEGIST, DoSomething Strategic

Reports To: Walker Post, Associate Director of Strategy

Compensation: 68,000 - 75,000

Location: DoSomething.org is headquartered in New York City with a distributed workforce across the country. Preferably, candidates will be based in the New York City Metro area, but candidates in other locations within the U.S will be considered.

Tri-state area employees observe a hybrid schedule, 3 days in office (Tu, W, Th) @ 50 w. 17th Street, NY 10011. DS offers flexible working hours between 8am - 6pm EST.

WHO WE ARE

DoSomething is a thirty year old nonprofit fueling young people to change the world. These young activists have made a real difference from donating over 1 million jeans to homeless youth; to over 4,600 young people powering the petition that compelled Apple to create emojis representing people of color; and providing 585,965 menstrual products to achieve gender equity! On top of all that, DoSomething has registered 365,000 young people to vote and claim our democracy since 2018, with our voter turnout rate, above the national average, at 62 percent.

THE ROLE

DoSomething Strategic (DSS) is the social impact consultancy arm of DoSomething.org, focused on young people and social change. We leverage what DoSomething knows about young people to help brands and nonprofits engage them for good. We ve advised clients such as Spotify, Nike, Hinge, the American Red Cross, Human Rights Campaign, among others.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Strategy, the Senior Strategist will help diagnose clients problems/needs; will develop and deliver strategy work in partnership with other team members; and will work closely with clients and partners to ensure they achieve the change they wish to see.

WHAT YOU LL DO

STRATEGIC CONSULTING (50%)

  • Conduct primary and secondary research at the intersection of young people, social movements and culture.
  • Use smart, insights-driven thinking to address client needs and develop strategies that help clients achieve both short-term and long-term goals.
  • Create narrative-driven insightful deliverables from beginning to end.
  • Provide strategic guidance throughout a client s entire business, from advising around internal practices to contributing strategic ideas around programs, products, or campaigns.
  • Present and facilitate sessions with clients and our internal staff in a confident and poised manner.

CLIENT MANAGEMENT & PROJECT MANAGEMENT (35%)

  • Create detailed project timelines and plans.
  • Proactively own work streams, timelines, and deliverables; flag challenges, and find solutions to deliver on time and on budget.
  • Develop long-term relationships and cultivate trusted advisor status with client contacts.
  • Build deep understanding of clients businesses and their target audiences; articulate challenges & opportunities.
  • Deliver superior client service, participate and add value at every stage of a project: kick-off, weekly meetings, working sessions, presentations, project wrap.
  • Occasionally support in writing new business pitches, briefs and proposals that drive revenue for the organization.
  • Support more junior staffers and oversee them on projects to meet project deadlines.

MARKETING & THOUGHT LEADERSHIP (15%)

  • Write engaging blogs and reports that sit at the intersection of Gen Z, brands and social impact.
  • Draft and deploy email marketing campaigns that engage thousands of impact-driven professionals.
  • Manage and grow DSS s LinkedIn presence.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 3+ years of experience in strategic consulting, marketing, journalism or grassroots organizing with working knowledge of account and project management
  • Finely-tuned relationship management and analytics skills. You have the ability to actively listen, learn, and draw insights from both quantitative and qualitative sources to inform your work and add value to your client relationships
  • Passion for purpose. Your heart for social impact culminates in a desire to help organizations better embrace a purpose-driven mission
  • Client success obsessed. You demonstrate a genuine concern for the needs and expectations of clients and make them a high priority.
  • Pop culture consciousness and curiosity. You re versed on a wide range of issues, voracious consumer of culture and information, explorer of the world, and you have a proven track record of applying race-intentional and inclusive lenses to inform your understanding of youth culture throughout the identity and political spectrum
  • An affinity for efficiency. You are proficient in project management tools (e.g. Monday.com, Slack) and techniques, and adept at managing competing priorities.
  • You have a working knowledge of GSuite (especially slides), email marketing platforms, Canva and Squarespace.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. You re experienced at developing on-brand content with clear narratives and compelling solutions. Must be comfortable with public speaking, storytelling, and working the room as the business requires it.
  • An interest in learning how to use artificial intelligence ethically and strategically.

  • A willingness to travel 5-10% of the time.
