Job Description:

Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated Sr. Structural Designer to join our team on a dynamic 9-month project based in Houston, TX. This role is crucial for the development of structural steel engineering designs, requiring a hands-on approach to preparing studies, drawings, and evaluations in compliance with established codes, standards, and contract requirements. Collaboration with other designers and engineers across various technical disciplines is essential. Ideal candidates will demonstrate robust organizational skills, exceptional problem-solving capabilities, and a proactive attitude.

Project Overview: The role will contribute to a high-stakes design and construction project for a significant aerospace agency. The focus will be on developing a launch platform integral to future deep space missions, involving various subsystems that must align within structural and operational constraints.

Positions Available:

  • Mid-Level Structural Designer: Requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field with 4-6 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Senior Structural Designer: Requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field with 8-10 years of related experience, or an AA/AS degree with 10-12 years of related experience. In the absence of a degree, 14-16 years of relevant work experience is acceptable.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Originate and check structural steel deliverables of moderate complexity, including drawings and 3-D models.
  • Review and interpret industry standards, guidelines, and codes to ensure compliance with project deliverables.
  • Report on design quantities and compare them to estimated quantities.
  • Engage in project design/model reviews and constructability reviews.
  • Coordinate and review technical documents with other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction teams.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
  • Extensive experience with AutoCAD, Tekla, or similar software is required.
  • Knowledge of ASTM, AISC, OSHA, and IBC codes is essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in structural steel design for heavy industrial facilities.
  • Strong understanding of construction materials, construction details, and techniques.
  • Experience in coordinating procurement and control of bulk materials.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables such as detailed design drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate technical issues clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to effectively resolve design issues with team members and clients.
  • Prior experience in environments adhering to Nuclear Quality and Safety standards is highly regarded.

Additional Requirements:

  • US citizenship is required.
  • Candidates must reside in or near the Houston area.
