Responsibilities:
- Quickly grasp project requirements to ensure thorough planning, documentation, and compliance with client standards.
- Lead the design and management of structural projects within the built environment, including new construction as part of a new service offering.
- Oversee project budgets, timelines, and progress, ensuring clear and proactive communication with stakeholders to meet deadlines.
- Balance time effectively between fieldwork, client meetings, and office-based project tasks, providing leadership in both areas.
- Investigate, analyze, and resolve structural deficiencies in existing buildings, including high-rises, parking structures, and building envelopes.
- Conduct forensic investigations, structural behavior evaluations, and prepare repair designs, budgets, and construction documents.
- Lead thorough inspections, surveys, and testing of existing structures to diagnose damage or deterioration causes and recommend solutions.
- Design structural systems for new construction projects, ensuring compliance with local codes and best practices.
- Review and critically assess plans, specifications, and structural calculations prepared by others.
- Coordinate and mentor a team of engineers and technical staff on both existing building projects and new construction ventures.
- Maintain, market, and expand restoration and forensic engineering consulting services to new and existing clients.
- Assist in training junior staff, sharing expertise, and providing hands-on guidance to develop their skills.
- Utilize project management software for documentation, reporting, and project tracking.
- Ensure compliance with local laws, codes, and filing requirements for both existing building projects and new construction.
- Provide occasional sketches of field conditions and leverage CAD tools for design work.
- Familiarity with NYC Scaffold Certifications and OSHA certifications is advantageous.
- Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall growth of the company's new and existing services.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5-10 years of experience in structural engineering, particularly in forensics, building envelope, facade restoration, and new construction.
- PE license required for the role.
- Proven ability to independently manage projects from investigation and repair of existing structures to design and execution of new construction.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft tools, project management software, CAD, and structural analysis tools.
- Clean driver's license required for occasional site visits.
- Comprehensive understanding of building construction processes, documentation, and maintenance, especially in NYC.
- OSHA and scaffold certifications are a bonus.
