Job Description:

Our firm seeks a senior urban planner for NEW YORK CITY Environmental Review projects. We are a collaborative, team-oriented firm with a longstanding reputation for excellence. We specialize in Environmental Impact Analysis and Assessments, NYC & NYS Quality Review, National Environmental Policy, and Land Use.

The Urban Planner performs detailed analysis, provides expertise, and prepares data submission requirements for CEQR/SEQR/NEPA applications. The position allows the planner to work closely with city and state agencies and project teams to analyze and disclose potential environmental impacts of discretionary land use actions.

The urban planner must possess expertise in:

  • Environmental Impact Statements (EISs),
  • Environmental Assessment Statements (EASs),
  • City Environmental Quality Review (CEQR),
  • State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA), and
  • National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)

This role is Hybrid: 80% remote, 20% in-person office.

Responsibilities and Requirements:

• Familiarity with environmental regulations, the CEQR Technical Manual, and the New York City Zoning Resolution.

• Ensure CEQR applications are complete and accurate and adhere to CEQR policy, technical standards, and other planning considerations.

• Work closely with stakeholders to aid in preparing and submitting CEQR applications.

• Communicate effectively with staff and other stakeholders, as needed.

• Provides technical assistance in the preparation and submission of applications.

Demonstrated Skills:

• Experience preparing City Environmental Quality Review (CEQR) applications, including Environmental Assessment Statements (EAS) and Environmental Impact Statements (EIS).

• Must possess exceptional writing, editing, and oral communication skills.

• Ability to problem-solve and grasp complex policy issues.

• Strong interpersonal skills, including working effectively with various personalities and stakeholders.

• Excellent research, analytical, and organizational skills.

• Proven ability to complete tasks promptly under minimal supervision and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Requirements:

• A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university. A Master's Degree is a Plus.

• Minimum of 5 - 10 years of relevant urban planning experience, ideally in the City of New York.

Our firm provides Environmental planning services, including coordinating public review processes and preparing technical studies. The firm prepares environmental studies for projects such as zoning map changes, special permits, variances, and other actions requiring environmental documentation-- including projects that require approval from the NYC Department of City Planning and NYC Board of Standards and Appeals or financing from the NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development.
