We encourage all qualified individuals, particularly those from historically marginalized groups, to apply.Job Summary: This position is primarily responsible for the smooth day to day functioning of the facility during their scheduled shift, enforcing the policies and procedures of the program, help maintain a safe environment for the shelter guests, and providing support in the framework of recovery from addiction to alcohol and/or other substances. Essential Functions of Position:
- Manage all assigned personnel for their dedicated shift, including delegation of shift responsibilities, providing evaluations, training new personnel, initiating disciplinary procedures as needed and support of the Shelter Manager in providing ongoing supervision to direct care personnel.
- Respond appropriately and direct staff during emergency situations. Contact on-call Manager when necessary.
- Provide care for shelter guests and maintain order by monitoring guest activities, providing crisis intervention and resolving conflicts.
- Oversee all safety and security policies and procedures, including bed checks, building security, and fire safety during assigned shift.
- Ensure the collection, maintenance, and monitoring of accurate guest daily logs, and other HMIS data.
- Food preparation, planning, management, and service on a daily basis, as needed.
- Attend staff meetings, shift change conferences as scheduled.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements for the position:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Knowledge of modality specific issues, such as substance use disorder or homelessness.
- Minimum two years of direct care experience working with a homeless, mentally ill, and/or actively addicted population.
- Minimum two years of continuous sobriety if in recovery.
- Demonstrated ability to interact favorably with a variety of personalities in various situations.
- Demonstrated knowledge/understanding of overall emergency shelter operations, including supervision of staff.
- Must occupy a position of authority while at the same time being a role model for subordinate staff.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to follow and enforce the policies and procedures of the program.
