Ireland's Four Courts, a busy neighborhood pub and embassy of soccer in the DMV (says the Washington Post), is searching for a bartender to join our team on a part-time basis, with the possibility to expand into a full time (four shifts + pick ups) for driven candidates. We are a high volume, full-service bar and restaurant; at least one years' experience working in a similar environment is required to keep up with the number of tables per section, the numbers of covers and the changing demands of sports and events. Our team is quite tenured and staff retention is something we are very proud of: we are hoping to find someone for whom hospitality is a career and who is willing to learn and grow in the roll. This is a great role for servers with limited bar experience to cross train and learn from a small and dedicated team. The ideal candidate not only pours a proper pint, but engages with our guests and many regulars in a familiar, polite and professional manner.
Responsibilities include:
- Effectively navigating guest expectations in a bar-restaurant environment: knowing the menu is key, but knowing what the bar can offer guests and how to provide them experiences they were not expecting is what makes our servers the most money and gives our guests their fullest experience possible. We are an Irish pub with all the traditional offerings guests expect, but we also have a large specialty American whiskey collection and the capacity to produce world-class cocktails with a variety of exotic ingredients. We are looking for a server who wants to better understand how our restaurant functions.
- Preparing the dining room for service, maintaining a stocked station through service, breaking down each night and continuously adhering to standards of efficiency and cleanliness
- Proficiency with the point-of-sale system (we use Toast), understanding of and adherence to the restaurant's policies and comps and voids
- Working harmoniously with fellow servers – we have a large floorplan and big sections and you will need a friendly hand every now and again
- Cultivating relationships with our regulars and establishing new regulars of your own; we have a diverse and loyal customer base; we expect each guest to be treated with respect and we expect returning guests to be remembered and shown appreciation for their patronage
Compensation is tips, not pooled, paid daily. Dining discounts, spirits continuing education, and shift meals.
